MONTVALE, NJ: Who's Ready To Take Over?
The Bad Boyz blew a big opportunity to stand alone atop the standings
If things seemed unpredictable before, we now really have no clue what the postseason has in store. After a few more surprise performances, it’s truly anyone’s guess as to who will become Montvale’s new champs.
How about the Ferrall Ballerz stunting the Bad Boyz? The up-and-down Ballerz were anything but in this one, holding a steady lead throughout and silencing what appeared to be the league’s hottest offense. Well, maybe silencing isn’t the right word.
Perhaps the Northeast Oscars were awarded prematurely. After Wednesday night’s loss, Dan Gashi’s behavior certainly warranted a place on the tongue-in-cheek All-Refs Best Friend Team. (If you haven’t check out James Mooney’s piece, see for yourself who represented Montvale in the awards.)
Scott Ferrall, who unfailingly earned a spot on the bad behavior team, talked with Dan and brother Paul Gashi before the two squads faced off. It certainly seemed that none of the three anticipated how the game was about to unfold.
After the Bad Boyz earned their second loss of the season, RUNt followed suit. Sure, Mike Kern didn’t play, but it was still a surprise to see the struggling Dream Team come up with a big win. Big game for Reed Johnson, who beat RUNt at their own game by doing major damage from 3.
The ultimate shocker would have been the Underdogs, dubbed the worst team in the entire region (again, see the Oscars), taking down Just Ball. It didn’t happen. They played them close for 30+ minutes before caving.
The Black Ops, meanwhile, nearly stunned the McNuggets in an even closer contest. But it wasn’t to be. At least we now know that the league’s two sorriest squads are officially out of it.
Six teams remain, including four who have two losses each. What that means is that next week is vital. The top two get a first round bye, which continues to look all the more valuable.
Once our league is decided, don’t forget about the Northeast Regional Championship! It will be here in about a month’s time, before you know it. After a no-show by our fall champs (Who were they again?), we have to be well represented this time around. Montvale March Madness is ready to begin.
