NORTHEAST REGION: The 2015 Winter Season Oscars Edition | Who Was Dubbed, and Who Was Snubbed?

In light of the Oscars that took place on Sunday night, I thought it would be fun (until I get the complaining emails) to have our own edition of the Oscars with our own twist to the awards.

So without further ado, here are your categories and winners......

Best Team Photo
Straight Raw (FLP)
I almost made this category "Best Team Name", but after seeing their team photo, I felt it necessary to highlight it and give it an award. I don't know if they got the memo, but typically our team photos are with everyone standing up. These guys either improv'd or just didn't care enough to stand. Either way, I respect their gangsta'!

Best Supporting Teammate
Jeff Wall of The Misfits (WCH)
Jeff knows his role, knows his strengths, and plays to his team's strengths. You'll never hear a negative word out of his mouth about a single individual on his team or another team. Has no problem passing up a shot, and has no problem subbing himself out.

The Long Hair, Don't Care Award
Mike Mastro of UnStuck (SYO)
Mike's luscious locks reminds me of Razor Ramon from WWE. And when Mike wets his hair and slicks it back, there's no messing with Mike after that. He's in the zone. He's like Sylvester Stallone in Over the Top, when he turns his hat backwards right before he arm wrestles. "It's like a switch."

The Shawshank Redemption Award
The Hooligans (SYO)
Hooligans are atop the leader board in SYO, along with UnStuck, but for the past two seasons Hooligans have really struggled during the regular season. With some new pieces and a new league format, Hooligans have finally broken away from the clutches of losing Andy Dufresne style and if they win the championship, they'll be seen fixing up a boat somewhere in Saywatanayo. "You remember the name of the town, don't you?"

The 'Do You Even Lift, Bro' Team
Tim Munch (WCH)
Chris Hendershot (FLP)
Ronnie Moore (FLP)
Evan Lampert (MTV)
Mark Mackey (FLP)
This is a team that has muscles where I didn't think muscles existed. This is a team where if I foul them, I'm going to the hospital. This is a team where if they are coming down the lane full speed, I am getting the hell out of the way. This is a team that plays basketball, just to get their cardio in.

The All-Refs Best Friend Team
Pershod Snuggs (SYO)
Scott Ferrall (MTV)
Shawn Marshall (SYO)
Wayne Gravesande (FLP)
Rob Cohan (MTV)
This team has the utmost respect for all of our referees and their decision making. They have never been T-d up and they have never complained about the job they've done.
*And the Most Sarcastic Award goes to me.*

The All-'Hand Down, Man Down' Team
Steve Serwatka (WCH)
Jordan Marcus (FLP)
Mike Venuti (SYO)
Ryan McPherson (FLP)
Brett Axelrod (WCH)
This team has no range. This team also has no conscience. This is NOT a group of guys you'd leave wide open. You don't dare them to shoot, and you certainly don't forget where they are. As soon as they cross half court, they need to be guarded.

The Peacock Award
Eric Meberg of Free Agents (WCH)
What is 'The Peacock' Award, you may ask? This award goes to the player who makes the most fashionably loud appearance. When a peacock shows its' feathers, it's majestic. When Eric Meberg made his Ultimate Hoops debut, it was just as magical. Just see for yourself HERE.

The Charlotte Bobcats, Chicago Cubs, New York Jets Award
Underdogs (MTV)
This team depresses me. Statistically, they are the worst team in the Northeast. I have seen 4th grade basketball teams average more than 36 points per game. Now, don't get mad at me! Get mad at your stats! If you guys are struggling, get in contact with Adrian Woodard, our Ultimate Hoops Trainer in Montvale. Or better yet, tell Jeff Kreismer to take his focus off of keeping stats and taking pictures while he plays!

'The Last Vegas' Team
Steve Neville (WCH)
Perry Mann (MTV)
Mitch Ross (SYO)
Keith Miles (FLP)
Tommy Christensen (MTV)
Even though the average age of this group is 72 years old, these guys are more active and in better shape than I am at 30. They have our motto of #NeverRetire tattooed across their chest. So don't laugh when you see these guys take off the oxygen masks, throw away their heart medication, and take you to school on the basketball court! Much respect to these guys still playing!

The Leonardo DiCaprio Award
McBuckets (WCH)
What does this mean? Well, think of how great of an actor Leonardo DiCaprio is and how great his movies have been. There's no debating his talent. But for whatever reason, he just can't win an Oscar. So for this reason, McBuckets reminds me of him. They are so good, but they just can't win the big one. "Never let go."

And our last award of the 2015 Ultimate Hoops Winter Season is............

The Life Time Achievement Award
Corin Chesterson
WHO??????? Corin Chesterson, former league coordinator of Westchester, has epitomized the experience and the growth of Ultimate Hoops. Going from a league coordinator in NY to a regional coordinator in Chicago is an achievement in itself. But Corin went above and beyond the call of duty. He really embraced what Ultimate Hoops is all about. Although he talked a TON of smack on the sidelines of game, Corin brought with him a passion and charisma that is uncanny. Some of his accomplishments are his Oscar winning performance in our Ultimate Hoops commercial. He gave a Barbara Walters-esc interview to Eric Meberg in one of Ultimate Hoops' most famous player interviews. His Christmas card photo went viral all over Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and appeared on our UHoops Weekly Newsletter. And his Thanksgiving Dinner article was one of the most viewed articles in Westchester history. We thank Corin for his dedication and hard work in Westchester and we wish him nothing but the best on his journey to success in Chicago.

Here are some of Corin's work:
1. Commercial

2. Christmas Card Photo

3. Thanksgiving Article

4. Eric Meberg Interview
