MONTVALE, NJ: Who’s got the best shot at the Ballerz?

We’re halfway through, and nobody has a winning record besides…Well, you know who. So, does anyone stand a chance?

Before the Ballerz beat the Tropics Wednesday night in a pretty competitive contest, Ferrall talked to newcomer David Bell and he of the new attitude, Rob Cohan.

The Tropics definitely had their chances, but shooting just over 30% is not going to get it done. You know you’re going to be in lower-scoring contests against the defending champs, and you have to take advantage of your chances. Well, while the Topics had this one in single-digits and threatened to pull even towards the end, the Ballerz just clamped down.

Temperament was even on the side of the Tropics in this one, as Cohan and Dan Gashi were on their best behaviors. Ferrall, meanwhile, helped out by getting a technical after a long dry spell of clean basketball. On top of all that, there was no Justin Leon for the Ballerz. Still…no problem in the end.

Also on Wednesday, the Comebacks dominated their opponent in Baller-like fashion. Suddenly, the Tropics one-point loss to the Comebacks last week doesn’t seem so awful. On the other hand, this 22-point rout basically resulted from having the Cowboys to feast on.

With that said, let’s still give some credit to Marselis Middleton and Danny Readie for combining to score 50 of their team’s 59 points. It was Dahne Menzel who put up the other nine, along with 14 boards. So it wasn’t just a two-man effort. Still, it’s going to take a full team to hang with the undefeateds when the Comebacks and Ballerz match up in two weeks.

Lastly, let’s not forget Uncle Chubby’s. Actually, let’s do just that. They couldn’t even beat the Cowboys a week ago. How can they be considered for anything at this point?

What this all means is that we’re likely looking at a three-team race. Let’s stay competitive, guys. We’re all tired of the Ballerz.
