DALLAS, TX: Plano get's the star treatment | Former NBA champ joins Ultimate Hoops

Ultimate Hoops has seen its fair share of stars. On Thursday night in Week 2 of Winter ball, former NBA veteran Antonio Daniels joined the list.

Daniels, 40, was the 4th overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft by the Vancouver (now Memphis) Grizzlies. He was acquired by the San Antonio Spurs the next year where he won an NBA Championship with Tim Duncan and David Robinson.

The Bowling Green alum played 13 years at the world’s most premiere level of basketball competition for the Grizzlies, Spurs, Portland Trail Blazers, Seattle Supersonics, Washington Wizards, New Orleans Hornets and Philadelphia 76ers. He also spent some time in the NBA Development League with the Texas Legends, the affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks.

The multi-talented Daniels is now a television broadcaster for the Oklahoma City Thunder. But he can still play ball, and so he still does.

The 6 foot 4 guard joined the Bucket Squad last night, part of Ultimate Hoops Plano. He immediately made his presence felt, as someone of his status would fully be expected to.

Even though it was a losing effort against the defending champions, The Soldiers, Daniels scored 33 points as well as adding 9 assists and 8 rebounds. He shed off some early rust and finished 8-11 from the free throw line, 10-18 from the field, 5-10 from three point range and nearly brought a team he was playing with for the first time back for an upset win.

After an explosive and entertaining first effort, it will be exciting to see what the former NBA Champion brings to Ultimate Hoops.
