WESTMINSTER, CO: Week 2 Recap | Ciroc all around

At the charity stripe

Week two in Westminster provided a lot of blowouts on the court, with the exception of the game between the Ciroc Boyz and the Medicinal Mambas, in a matchup of "which team takes the edge off more." Here is your week two recap.

Long Shots – 112 Eat, Sleep, Ball, Repeat– 69

Week 2 started off at a quick pace as the Long Shots played ESBR and advanced to 2-0 in league. ESBR undeniably is less effective than last season losing one of their main pieces, but that doesn’t stop them from battling it out with any opponent they face this season. Athletic powerhouse the Long Shots took advantage of both their size and speed. ESBR was no match for the physicality that the Long Shots bring to every game. Every player from the Long Shots contributed with double digit scoring efforts led by Captain Derek Elliot with a team high of 22 points. Good ball movement and team chemistry weren’t enough for ESBR to even out their record for this season; ESBR falls to 0-2 as the Long Shots pick up their second consecutive win of the season.

IMPACT – 94 The Gladiators – 77

Last season’s champions advanced to an expected 2-0 in the second week of Ultimate Hoops. The Gladiators with missing member Saul Chavira kept pace with IMPACT in the beginning of the game. With IMPACT starting off with a slower start than usual, dynamic duo Jimmy Binnie and Beau Barney put that to rest going into the second half. The Gladiators not only were missing Saul Chavira, but big man Kyle Norman who recorded 4 blocks in the first half of the first game he played with the Gladiators. However this game ended with another good sound and fundamentally driven win by IMPACT as The Gladiators held their own against the powerhouse.

Ciroc Boyz - 71 Medicinal Mambas - 70

In the most exciting match up of the night, Aaron Lohmann’s new team, Medicinal Mambas, battled Chris Morgan’s Ciroc Boyz in Tuesday night’s nail biter. Medicinal Mambas is full of fresh faces, a team compiled of new blood by Aaron Lohmann. Medicinal Mamba’s were behind by 7 by half time but quickly made a comeback throughout the second half leading by as much as 10 points. Taking advantage of the Medicinal Mamba’s zone defense, Ciroc Boyz hit it downhill possession by possession knocking down 3’s and attacking the rim. Richard Peterson was a huge reason why the Ciroc Boyz were able to come back in such aggressive fashion. Attacking the rim and drawing fouls, Ciroc Boyz went 13-23 from the charity line. Ciroc Boyz take a 1 point lead as the Mamba’s Ruben Rivas holds the ball with 18 seconds left in the game, he waits until the clock hits 6 seconds, and attacks the basket going one on three settling for an NBA last minute shot falling very short of the rim. This was the nail in the coffin for the Medicinal Mamba’s, a very winnable game ended in dramatic fashion with a build-up that let all spectators down. The Medicinal Mambas take their first loss of the season as the Ciroc Boyz even it up with a 1-1 record.

The Bad Boys - 97 Life Time Legends - 75

Bad Boys finished 2-0 after taking on the Life Time Legends who dropped to 0-2 this week. An easy game that padded stats for the Bad Boys, just about all members ended with double digit performances. Even with missing original Bad Boy Reggie Jackson, the notorious trouble makers had no problem knocking down shots and pushing in transition. Life Time Legends, a free agent team consisting of random players throughout the league didn’t have the consistency nor the team chemistry and experience to knock off the Bad Boys who plan on going much farther in the tournament this season.

LT Ballers - 49 Purple Cobras - 45

In the final game of the night, second free agent team full of young blood defeated Ultimate Hoops team Purple Cobras. The UH rookie team gave Purple Cobras their first lost of the season leaving them with a 1-1 record. In their Ultimate Hoops debut, LT Ballers showed that they could compete at a solid level to be able to handle this league. This game may have had a different outcome if it weren’t for a team mistake made by the Purple Cobras. With about 33 seconds left Purple Cobras team member sinks a 3 to take the lead, however the call is reversed due to the time out team members seemed to call prior to the made basket. This was a team mistake that would ultimately cost Purple Cobras the game as they opted to foul and put LT Ballers on the free throw line. Hopefully Purple Cobras learn this mistake and can continue to progress further in this season’s games.
