MONTVALE, NJ: The Perfect Ballerz Finish the Job | Banner #1 is Coming!

The Ballerz have claimed their spot. Who's got next?

With an unblemished 10-0 record, the Ferrall Ballerz are your newest Montvale UHoops champs!

The Ballerz completed an undefeated season Wednesday by holding on against Lane Train, 52-44. By the way, how about that 50-46 title game prediction? If you’re looking for a UHoops prognosticator, you know where to turn!

All kidding aside, this game had the makings of a photo finish after we were all tied at 23 at the half. No flash, no Ferrall outbursts (well, relatively speaking)…just solid basketball. In the second half, the Ballerz tightened up their defense, managing to keep a small but safe distance for most of the remaining 22 minutes.

While they did get a few easy buckets off offensive rebounds, all in all, Lane Train didn’t have many easy looks at the basket. A combined 6-27 from Zach Bernstein and Nick Bigos supports that claim. Maybe Mr. Bernstein isn’t totally healed after all. Witness his miracle revival before the game with Ferrall and company.

The bottom line is that the Ballerz played good enough defense to win and shot the ball much better than their opponent. Nobody on the Ballerz took more than eight shots. As a team, they made just one fewer field goal than Lane Train on 15 less attempts. How’s that for efficient?

With an eight-point lead and just three minutes remaining, the Ballerz made it somewhat interesting with a few careless turnovers that led to points (no need to name names). But these aren’t your Ferrall Ballerz of old. Even with a young crowd on hand clearly pulling for the Lane Train, the Ballerz didn’t get rattled. They held on to the ball, hit their free throws and kept their distance.

So congratulations to first-time champs Dan Gavagni, Perry Mann, Brian Mistretta, Scott Ferrall, Damon Cameron, Mike McClendon, Jeff Fazio and Dan Bronstein. Who wants a piece of these guys in the summer?
