MONTVALE, NJ: Who’s Ready for a Championship Fight?

It wouldn't be a fight without Rob Cohan

After a surprisingly lackluster postseason thus far, we are more than happy to see a rematch of a regular season finale that (almost literally) packed a punch. Let’s just hope the Bad Boyz-RUNt championship game compares.

Four playoff games down, and we are down to the final two. It’s no shock that RUNt and Bad Boyz have advanced. What is rather disappointing, however, is the fact that none of the quarter and semifinal games were really ever in question.

What happened to the Ferrall Ballerz? This was seemingly their most complete roster to date. They took care of business against the McNuggets in the quarterfinals, but in the semis, disaster struck. The old men looked like they were about to wet themselves after falling behind 25-6 to the Bad Boyz.

Maybe the Ballerz depth actually hurt them in this case. Rotating nine guys is not easy. Perhaps that explains what happened to Damon Cameron. He’s not an old man (though apparently he was sore and not thrilled about playing two games in two days). Still, he couldn’t get it going at all. He managed three total points and a combined 0-10 shooting in the two postseason games.

Because the Bad Boyz had a bye, they only had to beat the Ballerz to get to the championship. RUNt, meanwhile, impressed by slowing down the streaking Dream Team and then handling Just Ball. Just Ball ruined a top seeded bye and extended rest by laying an egg. Sean “play until the final whistle” Wiggers did just that, continuing to throw up bricks until the buzzer sounded. He finished the night 2-for-17.

We know offense won’t be hard to come by in our championship game. Other than that, who wins is anyone’s guess. Our nonsensical playoff preview had Bad Boyz as the favorites. The Boyz, after all, are led by Paul Gashi, he of the “fresh, funky Vanilla Ice hairdo.” Does this mean they take the title?

We can’t look to past results for evidence. RUNt blew out the Bad Boyz back in Week 1, but “Ice” wasn’t yet a member of the Boyz. Their only other meeting was just this week. Had the game-ending madness not done RUNt in, who knows what the result would have been? Both teams have streaky, high-volume shooters, so there’s tons of unpredictability there. Hmm…

All right, stop. Ice, Ice, Baby.

Prediction: Bad Boyz, 70-64
