TEMPE, AZ: Week 5 Preview | Clash of the Titans

How will Nick Tomsick and Mark Price do in possibly their toughest matchup of the season?

The halfway point is here in Tempe yet it feels like the excitement is just ramping up! Week 4 was “Blowout” week but week 5 is shaping up to be as exciting as can be. We’ve got the biggest “downtown” mouth and his squad going head to head with the Tempe equivalent of the Spurs. This weeks icing on the cake will be a showdown for number one and the chance to stay undefeated and powerhouses collide. Let’s get to the prediction…

WHOS NEXT VS WOLVES 630PM
The first game of Week 5 will pit Who’s Next against the Tempe Wolves. Who’s Next still wounded from a week 4 loss to the Bulls will use week 5 to tune up and seek revenge. Guard Weylan Towns had an impressive 36-point performance against the Bulls but unfortunately the rest of the team failed to get into a rhythm.
The Wolves…what can I say about these poor souls? This team just can’t seem to pull things together to be competitive. Hopefully week 5 will be the start of something new and they will scrap together a win.
Prediction: Who’s Next by 12

MONSTARS VS TEMPE FA 630PM
Our second matchup sees the Monstars competing against the Free Agents. Week 4 saw the Monstars running over the Wolves with a 19-point victory. Kenny Mahone and Francisco Ahumada combined for 65 points, while JP Price chipped in 13. The Monstars are a talented collection of players; despite having won easily last week they are struggling this season to find the consistency of last season.
The Free Agents had a rough week 4, I don’t have the heart to shoot a wounded deer or beat a dead horse. Just play for pride and dignity at this point. Play for the hope of getting noticed and picked up during the fall season.
Prediction: Monstars by 30

BULLS VS. DOWNTOWN 730PM
The third matchup for week 5 will give us the Bulls versus Downtown. The Bulls are rolling having defeated Who’s Next in week 4. Marcus Atkins had an impressive performance last week going 7-11 from the field and 6-6 from the charity stripe for a total of 20 points. Look for the Bulls to bring their gritty defensive style and run and gun offense to their week 5 matchup. The scary thing about the Bulls is that they have yet to play with their full roster. Rumor around the pressroom is that star big man Tyler Labrum may not suit up due to an ankle injury.
Downtown is a team that can easily put up enough points to come out of this week with a win. Having rested in week 4 on a bye, big guard/forward Omar Waller and veteran guard Gerald Williams will look to duplicate their week 3 production while leading their team to a victory.
Prediction: While Downtown is filled with veteran talent I see the Bulls running away with the win this week…Bulls by 15 (if Tyler is healthy they may push it to 20)

SPLASH BROTHERS VS HASHTAG 730PM
The fourth and final game of Week 5 will be a clash of titans in a battle for king of the hill. The ever-potent team Hashtag will look to trend #wethebest and #number1 but to do so they’ll need to beat the powerhouse Splash Brothers. Hashtag has put up huge numbers each week and definitely has a supercharged offense. Week 4 gave them a nearly 60-point victory with only 4 players! Guard Joseph Hormes will look to unleash the deadly 3-ball that some unfortunate teams have had the displeasure of experiencing firsthand. On the other side of this matchup, star guard Nick Tomsick has a deadly 3-ball of his own that he will be looking to showcase. This should be an impressive offensive display as both teams are terribly potent on the scoring end and both are looking to remain undefeated come week 6.
Prediction: This one is difficult to call…it may come down to the wire. Splash Brothers by 2.

REMINDER THIS IS THE LAST WEEK TO MAKE ANYMORE ADDITIONS TO YOUR TEAM. NO MORE ROSTER ADDS AFTER WEEK 5.

See you on the court!
