MONTVALE, NJ: YGM - Your Spring 2014 Champs
Ever since their first game a few months ago, the hype was there. The kids were coming to take over the men’s league. Well, they are now officially #1.
The Young Gelt Militia finished off an incredibly impressive season by taking down RUNt for the title Wednesday night. It was really the most fitting way to end the Spring League, as RUNt was the only team to top YGM at full strength and appeared to be the only club that could put them in their place.
This time, though, YGM was one step ahead for most of the game. There were no broken glass panes and no head-on collisions in this one, but the entertainment value was still there. The Militia clung to a small lead and never gave it up. Still, the outcome was in doubt until the clock hit 0.0. Vinnie Graff hit one desperation three with under 10 seconds left and nearly hit another at the horn to send it into OT. Take a look…
Considering how this season ended, we must be in store for one heck of a Summer League. Well, not so fast. We actually already know we will have a brand new champion in a few months. Old School will be back in the fall, and the YGM boys are a one-and-done squad. We knew that about them coming into the Spring season, but now that they’ve claimed the title, it is a bit disappointing.
Who will be the new fan favorites for the summer? If RUNt doesn’t come back in some form or fashion, we might be in big trouble. Maybe it’s a bit premature to panic, but consider another sideshow season of Scott Ferrall and his gang and a bunch of holdovers from teams that didn’t see the playoffs this past season. If that’s all we have to look forward to… Need we say more?
