MONTVALE, NJ: The Championship Game Is Set

Free throws proved to be an issue as Team Justin fell to the Ball Hogs

We are down to the final two after each of Monday night’s semifinal games were surprisingly decided by double-digits. In Wednesday night’s championship matchup will be…

Old School vs. Ball Hogs

With a combined 13-2 record between the two, this contest should be a great one. In fact, back in Week 1, Old School handed the Ball Hogs their lone defeat of the season by edging them out 55-53.

So how did each get to the title game?

First to advance was Old School, who routed Team Randy by 31. In the 66-35 final, Old School showed off an extremely balanced attack, something they’ve been great at doing all season. Four players hit double figures, led by Billy Allen’s 19. Old School jumped out to a 20-7 lead and never looked back.

Team Randy was sorely missing leading scorer Adrian Woodard. The squad shot just 24% from the field and Aidan Rezvani was the only player to score more than 8 points. With just five players present, fatigue took over in the second half as the lead ballooned for Old School.

The Ball Hogs advanced after a more competitive contest in which they took down Team Justin 54-39. Much like Old School, the Ball Hogs featured impressive balance, with five players scoring between 7 and 12. They managed to control the action and lead nearly the entire way by limiting their mistakes and playing smart on offense.

While Justin managed to hang around for most of the game, they were done in by a 13-0 run in the second half after they tied up the score at 36. Turnovers and poor free throw shooting did not help matters. While Jesse Joudanin led his team with 15, he hit just 2 of 9 from the line.

Both halves of the game got off to an interesting start with the Ball Hogs earning two technicals. The first occurred when Brian Perez began the game without a team jersey, and the second when the team put six men on the court to start the second half.

Even so, the minor mishaps did little to stop the Ball Hogs from advancing to the title against Old School and earning a much-awaited rematch from earlier this season.
