MONTVALE, NJ: Week Two Moves One Team to 2-0

Fans cheer on Team Jeremy in their season-opening game

While five of the six teams in action Wednesday night were playing their second game, only one claimed its second victory of the season.

Team Justin moved to 2-0 in a game they never trailed despite the close final score of 39-36. The game was in fact played within a tight window, but Team Brett was unable to get over the hump. Justin Leon and Jesse Joudanin carried the squad with 28 of the 39 points. While Brett Merker provided a low post presence for his team with 10 points and 9 rebounds, Team Brett shot poorly overall. It ended up being their downfall in the end. While they had to resort to fouling to have a chance in the final seconds, they were unable to convert from the field and fell just short.

Team Brian handily defeated Team Randy, 85-53. Randy never had a lead in the game, and two main factors contributed to their 32-point defeat: too many turnovers and not enough of an inside presence. Team Brian's Michael Brown proved the latter to be true with 17 rebounds, nearly totaling Randy's team output. The fact that Team Randy committed 16 turnovers did not help matters. Overall, Brian's squad took over 20 more shots and made a higher percentage. Sam Katz led the way with 26.

The final game of the night continued the turnover theme. Team Jeremy won by 13, 45-32, and took advantage of sloppy play by Team Bryan by taking the ball away 24 times. Jeremy played pressure defense from the start and never looked back after opening with an 11-0 lead. While it was too little too late, a bright spot showed up in the second half for Team Bryan in Arigi Getsos, who led his team with 15 points and made all three of his threes. Team Jeremy was led by Vinnie Graff and Adrian Woodard, who combined to outscore Jeremy by themselves.
