COMMERCE OPEN: Power Rankings | Runnin' Rebels on the rise

Vaughn Gray guarding Joel Simpson

While Dat Aint Fair runs away with the top ranking and Rock City sits at Rock bottom, spots #2 through #5 can change from week to week.

1) Dat Aint Fair (5-0) – Champions last session, #1 pre-season ranked, undefeated through 5 games. Squeaked out a close one against Sons of Basketball last week but any W is tough when you have a bullseye on your back every night.

2) Runnin Rebels (3-2) – The hottest team in the league not named Dat Aint Fair won their 3rd consecutive game by beating C4 61-59. The Rebels played an up tempo pressing style that caused turnovers and led to some easy buckets to pull away with the 2-pt win. Rising star Phillip Nelson led the Rebels with 19 pts and could be the go to scorer that this feisty defensive team needs down the stretch.

3) C4 (3-2) – A 2-pt loss without star player Jeff Jayson is nothing to be overly upset about, however, with his probable absence for the rest of the regular season, some of the other players on C4 are going to have to step up just to make sure they make it into the playoffs. A game Thursday against Rock City should help settle the ship a little bit at the moment.

4) Squad (2-3) – Two wins in a row has Squad and GM Ben Kil believing that they can claim one of the four playoff spots in their inaugural season. They do have the toughest remaining schedule of any team though, facing off against the three teams above them in the power rankings. If they make it into the playoffs, they will have earned it.

5) Sons of Basketball (2-3) – Two wins. Three losses. Without Darius Statum, scoring from the guard position has been tough for SOB. Post scoring (Joel Simpson) and the outside shooting of Kane Poehlman and Nick Hargress will have to carry them into the playoffs.

6) Rock City (0-5) – Rock City continues to give solid effort on a weekly basis but just does not seem to have the same offensive talent that the teams above them have. They have 3 weeks left to try and claim a victory. My best bet would be week 7 against Sons of Basketball (lost 80-53 in week 2, smallest margin of loss on the season.) With the playoffs out of the picture, hopefully RC can continue to play hard and finish out the season with their heads held high, win or lose.
