COMMERCE REC: Power Rankings | C4 must not invincible after losing to Shelby's Finest

Johnnie Brown playing defense on Andre Tillman

For the first time all season, C4 is knocked out of the playoff spot in our rankings. Who takes their spot? Also, the playoff picture (top 4 teams get in) gets a little clearer in our Week 7 Power Rankings.

1) Shelby’s Finest (5-1, Last #2) – Shelby’s Finest picked up the biggest win of the season knocking off formerly unbeaten C4 with a very balanced attack on offense and stifling defense holding C4 over 20 points below their season average. Johnnie Brown’s defense on sharpshooter Jason Rennie (6-18 from the field) was the main difference in the 73-64 victory. Shelby now controls their own destiny to the #1 seed in the playoffs.

2) C4 (5-1, Last #1) – So maybe they are not invincible, but they can’t win every game. They do however still have 3 of the top 6 scorers in the league, all averaging above 20 points per game. Jason Rennie (29.3 ppg), Jeff Jayson (24.5 ppg), and Brandon Nafso (20.5 ppg) will use this one loss as motivation. Things might have been just a little bit too easy the first 5 games and this loss in week #6 will be a blessing in disguise for this team down the stretch. C4 will be working hard the next 3 weeks to earn a rematch with that team from the east side.

3) Hit Squad (4-2, Last #3) – After a pair of 21 point losses, any win would be fine for GM Devante Pennyman. Hopefully an 89-71 win over winless Sons of Basketball will turn things around for this team. There are no cupcakes left on the schedule though with a matchup against a desperate Running Rebels team in Week #7 and a motivated C4 team in Week #8. We will find out if they are a real championship contended in these next two weeks before the playoffs.

4) Weekend Warriors (2-4, Last #5) – In what was essentially a playoff game for the Warriors, they came out and played their best game of the season to take hold of the 4th and final playoff spot holding the head to head tiebreaker with the Running Rebels after a convincing 79-62 victory. The Warriors assisted on 18 of their 29 buckets and shot 42% from 3 (11-26) in the victory. Darryl Foster’s 23 points (10-13 FG) led the Warriors, outdueling fellow pre-season MVP candidate Steven Reynolds (14 pts). The Warriors control their own destiny now, needing to match any wins the Running Rebels get in weeks 7 and 8 due to the head to head tiebreaker.

5) Runnin' Rebels (2-4, Last #4) – The Week 6 loss to the Warriors hurts but does not completely eliminate the Rebels from the playoffs. Julius Barnett (31 pts) scored half of his teams points in the 79-62 loss. The Rebels have two tough games left against #3 Hit Squad and #1 Shelby’s Finest. They will most likely need to win both of these games if they want to take the 4th and final playoff spot.

6) Sons of Basketball (0-6, Last #6) – GM Darius Statum did everything he could to try and get his team their first W of the season but could not get enough help offensively or defensively in a 89-71 loss to the Hit Squad. Statum went off for a week high of 35 points including 9 3 pters to go with 9 rebounds and 4 assists. The rest of his team could only muster 36 points and got outrebounded 38-23 on the night. Statum might have to put up 40 in each of the last 2 games for his team to pull out a W.
