COMMERCE 14U: Players who shine and players who deserve less playing time | Most overrated and underrated players
Nick Jadan with the easy two points
Not every player on our league can be a legitimate superstar. While most players strive to earn their place among the league's elite, the reality is that some are overrated and some are completely overlooked. We're talking about the players who have been lauded by their teammates or opponents who are not realistically deserving of the accolades.
This list is not meant to be a prediction of future success. It is a look at the players who have received far too much credit and those who haven't received nearly enough.
Most Overrated
1. Reno George - Missed layups and random shot selection are a consistent diet in this players game. He draws plenty of fouls seeing that no player can stay in front of him, but has yet to make a free throw in three games. On a brighter note, Reno has the potential to be one of the best players in the league if he just sticks to the things he does best, but as of now the only consistencies in his game are his inconsistencies. Being one of the bigger kids in the league we expect more out of him.
2. Aiman Salah - Aiman is another player who has a lot of upside, but spends to much time playing and not taking the game serious while his man is scoring at the other end. As one of the leaders on his team he needs to lead by example. Through three games he hasn't made a three pointer (8 attempts) or a free throw (7 attempts). We expect Aiman to finish the season strong.
Most Underrated
1. Bailey Hannawa - Bailey is one of those players every team wants. That X-factor player whose not the greatest, but can do some of everything of the court. He's the player who always goes unnoticed, but fills up the stat sheet. With Gino Bachi demanding a double team, Bailey finds himself being the beneficiary on many plays. In his last outing, he scored 20 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
2. Sebastian Semma - On a team headlined by two of the league’s best, Dylan Bachi and Blake Kizi, this team really needed a guy who could lock down an opponent’s perimeter threats. His versatility and energy provide the spark that his team needs when opposing defenders lock onto their offensive threats.
