COMMERCE REC: Power rankings heading into week 3 | Did C4 just get harder to beat?

After three weeks of play, there are still two undefeated teams at 3-0. However, we will not get that showdown until week 5 when C4 matches the Hit Squad. Take a look at our most updated power rankings through three games.

1) C4 (3-0) – This team was probably the favorite after two weeks into this session, however, after the addition of Jason Rennie (38 pts in Week 3 win over Weekend Warriors), they are the clear favorite to not only win the championship, but to go undefeated while doing it. Rennie and fellow sharpshooter Jeff Jayson combined to go 19-37 from 3 point land, combining for 76 points in their 103-73 win over the reeling Weekend Warriors. With the continued steady point guard play of Brandon Nafso with these two sharpshooters, the only thing standing between C4 and an undefeated session is staying healthy and having everyone show up.

2) Hit Squad (3-0) – In a battle against winless Sons of Basketball, Hit Squad squeaked out a 1 point victory, 59-58 last week. The lack of offensive firepower despite having all their firepower at the game has to be troublesome to GM Devante Pennyman. For now, we will chalk it up to them looking toward their week 5 showdown with C4. However, a week 4 matchup with Shelby’s Finest (2-1) looms for the Hit squad, who better not be looking ahead to C4 this week.

3) Running Rebels (1-2) – How is a 1-2 team ranked ahead of a 2-1 team? How about a head to head victory (RR over SF 61-55 in week 3) and the debut of Steven Reynolds to the fall session? While Reynolds only had 10 pts and 4 reb in the W, his mere presence helped to inspire the Rebels to their first win of the season. A 2nd matchup with #1 ranked C4 emerges in week 4, giving GM Rashodd Ross and his squad a real chance to put their imprint on this session.

4) Shelby’s Finest (2-1) – A 77-76 W over SOB in Week 2 followed by a week 3 loss drops Shelby’s Finest to #4 in our rankings. The team shot a poor 4-18 from 3 pt range in their week 3 loss, and had an uncharacteristic 13 TO’s to only 7 assists. When Vaughn Gray and McKinsey Golfin AKA “The Legend” combine to go 1-13 from deep. On these types of nights, other players are going to have to step up for Shelby’s Finest, but, who is it going to be?

5) Sons of Basketball (0-3) - A one point loss to #2 ranked Hit Squad is a great effort, however, we know GM Darius Statum (21 pts) is not content with “moral victories.” Joel Simpson continues to put up big time numbers (18 pts, 14 reb). The question becomes who else is going to help these two? They combined for 39 of the teams 58 points last week, leaving only 19 points combined between the other 7 players on their roster. Despite being winless, the Sons of Basketball head into week 4 a slight favorite over our #6 ranked team, the Weekend Warriors.

6) Weekend Warriors (0-3) – The Warriors ran into a buzz saw, or the perfect storm, or any other cliché you can think of to describe the addition of Jason Rennie to C4. The Warriors had the 2nd highest offensive output of the week and still lost by 30!! This team that recently has finished as the runner-up in each of the last 2 sessions, will look to pick up their first win playing the only other 0-3 team in the league this week. Can this team come together to make another post-season run? We will get a small glimpse of that this week as one of our winless teams has to get their first W.
