COLORADO SPRINGS, CO: Regular Season Finale | The Champs Make a Statement

Anthony Byrd Sizes up the Defense

A lot was on the line in the last week of the regular season in Colorado Springs. One team was trying to stay undefeated; another was trying to stay above .500; another was trying to get to .500; and the other was trying to get that monkey off their back and head in to the postseason with a W. After the games were played, one thing is for sure: the champs aren't going anywhere!

In the first game of the night, The Conglomerate took on The Free Agents. The Conglomerate came storming out of the gate, building a double-digit lead in the first half on the sharp-shooting of Zach Lindquist. The Free Agents could have folded and let the game get out of hand, but they showed a lot of fight and wouldn't let The Conglomerate pull away, and even outscored their counterpart by a point in the second half. Eventually, The Conglomerate, led by a monster double-double from Chuck McKenzie, won the game, 76-65.

On paper, the second game of the evening looked like it was gong to be over right after the opening tip. You had the defending champs, The Decision, taking on the last place team, The Free Agents, who were ten minutes removed from a tough game. All signs pointed to an ugly game from start to finish, but The Free Agents had other ideas. The Free Agents played a stifling defense, clogging the paint while rotating well on the perimeter, and were a buzzer-beater away from leading at the half, but found themselves down by one going in to the second. That's when the fatigue kicked in. The Decision came out firing to start the second half, and were up by 15 within four minutes. Anthony Byrd inside and Terell Oliver on the outside proved to be too much for The Free Agents as The Decision ran away with the game, 95-70.

While the second game looked like it wouldn't be pretty, a lot of people thought the third game of the night was going to be a great one. That wasn't the case. In the nightcap, The Decision took on Ghost, which has turned in to a nice rivalry. The Decision controlled the game from the opening tip to the final buzzer. The Decision was led by Ranell Green, who capped the game off with an emphatic dunk in the final minute.

With the regular season coming to a close, all eyes turn to the playoffs, where top-seeded The Decision will face off against The Free Agents and The Conglomerate squaring off with Ghost, with the winners playing in the championship game. Will we have a new champion, or will the reigning champs defend their crown? We'll have to wait and see.
