COMMERCE, MI REC: Power Rankings

1. Sons of Basketball (4-0) - GM Darius Statum is back after taking a season off. His team is currently undefeated, but there are just so many questions surrounding his team. Will they share the ball the entire season, how will their defense be, will Darius Statum trust his teammates? Those are all questions that have to be answered before they move up in the power rankings. They did defeat the defending champs in the previous week by 4 points, but it looked as if Statum was back to his old ways. It’s still early but we will be watching this team closely all season.

2. Rent-A-Bounce (4-0) - One of the most dominant 6 man roster this league has ever seen. Every season this team is always in the championship hunt. The team is led by Sean Mattia, Tim Acho and Anthony Acho. So far the team is undefeated, and at the end of the season you can expect them to be a top 3 team at the end of the season. Let’s see if they add another player to their roster and maybe that will put them over the hump and better their chances of winning a championship.

3. Dat Aint Fair (3-1) - Through the first few weeks they have been averaging 116 ppg. With the captain McKinsey Golfin leading the charge on offense and Vaughn Gray and Jarrod Rice leading them defensively, this team has look almost unbeatable. This team doesn’t care who scores, seeing that they have at least 6 players who can score 25+ points a night. So far they have won their games by an average of 25.5 ppg and lost one by 25. Let’s see if they can keep this up for the rest of the season.

4. C4 (2-2) - GM Joseph Kassis has brought back a few familiar faces back to his team, Brandon Cassise and Ara Kaypekian. C4 is always a team you can count on to be in the championship. Last season was the first time in 5 seasons that they did not appear in the championship. With that happening they upgraded their roster by bringing back one of the best scorers this league has seen, in Brandon Cassise. The team is sitting at .500 right now, but once they regain their chemistry they should be just fine.

5. Hit Squad (2-2) - The first season GM Devante Pennyman and his team has the target on their back as the defending champs. They are currently 2-2 in this very young season. The team has added a very solid player in Brandon Krause. He will definitely help them on the offensive end of the court, but do they have enough to repeat after losing a few of their key defensive players from last season.

6. One Under (2-2) – In his first experience in Ultimate Hoops, last season GM Mike Welsh had his team in the championship game. This season may be different. Losing defensive specialist Brian Mills was a big blow for this team. In order for this team to sneak into the playoffs Desmond Sain and Tim Thompson will have to take their games to another level.

7. Weekend Warriors (1-3) - One of the most underrated teams this league has ever seen. This might be the most unselfish team this league has ever seen. They have crispy ball movement similar to defending NBA Champs San Antonio Spurs, and there isn’t one big name on the team. They go out and compete every game. They only thing about this team is that they are not good on the defensive side of the ball. Playing hard is one thing, but getting key stops is another. They will make the playoffs, but they need to find another playmaker besides Linzy Bennett to take some of the pressure off of him.

8. Bull Dogs (1-3) – GM James Way returned to the league this season in hopes of bringing back his original team in the Cable Dogs, but this team is far from that. This is a very mediocre team at best. Looking at their schedule for the rest of the season, they might win one more game. They have one of the toughest schedules in the league and with their current roster only having 7 guys but only 5 showing up every week, I just don’t see them competing for a full 44 minutes every game.

9. Beefy Stroggy (1-3) - This team has a few good pieces on it, but in this league it just won’t be enough to win a championship anytime soon. Led by Robert White and Andre Collins, this team will be battling for possibly the last 2 spots for the playoffs. The whole season for them is the playoffs, since they will fighting for a position. The team has a few players that can score the ball, but overall this season will be a struggle.

10. Guaranteed (0-4) – GM Jawoin Spinks went out and assembled his own team this season. From top to bottom there isn’t much talent, but the biggest recruit Spinks was able to land was veteran Damon Dowdell. He was also able to get CJ Whitfield, who is back in the league for the first time in a while. Dowdell will be shouldering the load most of the season, but it won’t be enough to make them a playoff team this season.
