COMMERCE, MI 6FT & UNDER: Can A New Captain Make A Big Difference

Nick Kenaya Ready For The Games To Begin

After an amazing spring season in the books, the summer session kicked off on Monday night, and had everything that everyone thought it would have. The teams took the floor that night and put on a performance that left everyone thinking can last season’s champions pull it off again. Many changes were made during our off season, but let’s see if these changes were for the better.

Every season we have had a draft and the captains have usually been the same, until this season. MVP runner up Justin Nafso, decided to step away from this league because he was signed to play college ball for Rochester College this year, which opened up a spot for a new captain. That one spot was earned by Lance Shamoun, who in my opinion can score at will anytime. Bringing in a new captain changed the draft this season. Lance made sure to pick up the players that are supposed to be picked up to build a team instead of the way other captains draft, which is picking up their friends. Not only will this make teams better but it will also show us who the real stars of the league are.

On opening Team George came out firing away and held the lead for most of the game until the final ten minutes where the lead changed and Team Jordan took over. GM Jordan Jeberaeel did not let his team down on opening night. They kept chipping away until they won and made sure that Team George understands that this season is not going to be a walk in the park. Following that game new captain Lance Shamoun made his captain debut by dropping 20pts and showing every one why he believes that he will be crowned not only as MVP, but also as a champion this season.

This is just the beginning of the season and the best is yet to come. Can Team George pull off another victory or will new GM Lance Shamoun crown himself as a new champion and MVP. Which team will step up to the plate? Only time will tell.
