MINNESOTA: Four Fantastic Finishes in Fridley on Thursday night | Powell scores 47

Action from Thursday's Fridley League in Minnesota

Fridley, MN- Four of the six games in Ultimate Hoops Fridley had fantastic finishes on Thursday night.

- The game of the night was Redemption vs. Fortress. With Fortress down three late, Ryan Kelly hit a deep three to tie the game and seemingly send it into overtime. Kevin Becker of Redemption, however, had other ideas. Becker had only five points for the night, but he came up big in the clutch. Becker hit a half-court, falling out of bounds three-pointer at the buzzer to claim the big win for Redemption. Despite protests from Fortress that Becker was actually out of bounds when he released the ball, the officials counted the basket moving Redemption to 4-2.

- The Celtics were uncharacteristically short-handed for their big game against Phoenix Down, having only five players in uniform. They found themselves trailing 42-35 with 14 minutes remaining before an intentional foul was called on Derek Batiste for wrapping up Marcus Marshall on a break-away. The resulting free-throws and possession sparked the Celtics to a 18-3 run and clutch free-throws from Marshall and Ryan Smolarek helped the them hold on and remain undefeated.

- Another controversial finish in the That Thang vs. Sota tilt. With the score tied, That Thang held the ball for the final 30 seconds for the last shot. With four seconds remaining, That Thang's playmaker Curtis Herzberg went strong to the basket. Sota's Venant Juma stepped up to attempt to draw a charge. As Herzberg's lay-up went through the twine with one second remaining, both players looked to the official to see if the basket would stand. Official Dustin Boll immediately signaled "No Call", choosing to let the players decide the outcome rather than the officials. Sota heaved a desperate 3/4 length shot at the buzzer that was nowhere close.

- Noisy Withdrawal barely escaped an epic collapse. Up by five points with a minute left in regulation, they allowed the Ideals to charge back and tie the game up as well as have a chance to win it at the buzzer. Noisy Withdrawal played smart basketball, however, realizing they had only three team fouls. Rather than allow the Ideals to get a good look, Noisy Withdrawal chose to foul them each time they inbounded the ball. Josh Hoyle was able to launch a 28 foot heave at the buzzer which didn't convert. In the overtime, Noisy Withdrawal took control, winning by eight.

In the other games:

- Chaos played the Ninja Turtles tough for a half, leading by six at the break. In the end, however, the size of the Turtles was too much. Behind the strength of 19 offensive rebounds and a big game from Sean Ball - who is looking to finally be near full strength after a debilitating injury - the Turtles pulled away for a 13-point win.

- The Bulls had no trouble with the Secret Agents as Roderick Powell scored 47 points and Eugene Phelps and Romaro Nelson each tabbed triple-doubles in the rout.
