Ultimate Hoops 2011 Winter Target Center (Unofficial) Power Rankings: Week 6

The Bravehearts and Gauchos weren't the only teams swapping spots after Monday's upsets.

Ultimate Hoops 2011 Winter Target Center (Unofficial) Power Rankings: Week 5

Rank (Last Week) | Team | Record | Comment

1 (1) Abe Froman (5-1)
And down goes Froman! After comfortably cruising to a 5-0 start, the sausage stopped short of 6 as the Abes were steamrolled in the second-half of Monday’s showdown with Fridley. The absence of Wolf was certainly a factor as the #1 team was uncharacteristically coaxed into launching a season-high 27 3’s with a season-low 14 helpers. No need to hit the panic button though as the Nets roll into town next week.

2 (4) Team Fridley (4-2)
Despite the Valentine’s festivities, the best shots were not fired by Cupid on Monday night as the Fridsters connected on 13 trifectas while shooting 52% from downtown. After Kyles messed around and almost got a triple double, is there any doubt who the MVP is? We’ll know for certain after Week 7’s showdown with the Hearts.

3 (5) The Gauchos (4-2)
These caballeros had a different kind of message on their candy hearts and minds: sweet, sweet revenge. Seeking to avenge their Week 1 defeat, last week’s snub on our big board only added fuel to the fire. 44 minutes of hoops later, respect has come. Since losing 2 out of their first 3, they’ve shored up their D and now boast the league’s longest winning streak.

4 (2) Bravehearts (4-2)
A thin bench and lackluster support for Ridley have left this team looking more like post-betrayal William Wallaces than heroic underdogs. Sadly, the traitor within their ranks is field-goal shooting: a woeful 35% during the current 2-game skid.

5 (3) Timberwolves (4-2)
Sure, they had a bye so it’s not like they hurt their cause in Week 6. Really, the two-spot drop reflects the rise of Fridley and the Gauchos. With two enormous tests to close out the season, will these Wolves prove to be top dogs or merely the best of the rest?

6 (6) Clubbin' Clubbers (1-5)
As one of two teams who didn’t have to come up with an excuse for skipping Valentine’s duties, the Clubbers naturally found themselves as one of only two teams to stand pat after a tumultuous week at Target. The Battle for 2-Win Supremacy looms in Week 7 against a deteriorating yet still dangerous Grizzlies squad.

7 (8) Nets (1-5)
Take it any way you can get it, right? A win is a win and we’re not convinced the new-look Nets wouldn’t have won even if the Grislies had fielded a full squad. Sadly, the reality is that this Valentine’s Day Miracle will not last with the Nets finishing the year against the league’s top 2 teams.

8 (7) Grizzlies (1-5)
For once, two was the loneliest number of National Couples’ Day. Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, the Griz had only fielded two players when the forfeit buzzer sounded. With a loss in the books, the league’s laughing stocks mixed it up with UH staff for some spirited, full-court friendlys. Despite an assortment of running shoes and even a pair of jeans, we contend that better basketball was actually played.
