AJAX, ON: Game Notebook Playoff Round 1 | Will Tough Juice take it all?
All the top teams in UH Ajax held their own in the 1st round of the playoffs. Tough Juice, The Defaz, Soldiers and Eastside Goodfellas are advancing to the final four with goals of winning the Ultimate Hoops Toronto Title.
Game 1 - Tough Juice vs Team Dab
Game 2 - The Defaz vs Durham Flight
Game 3 - Soldiers vs Red Hawks
Game 4 - Jumpmen vs Goodfellas
Game 1
Tough Juice had their best game this season. Team Dab had some players missing and weren't hitting their shots which hurt them a lot this game. Tough Juice came out with a strong mentality showing what they are made of in the 1st Playoffs round.
Team Dab's Richie Allen played solid this game controlling his team making key passes and hitting shots. He finished with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Joe Kiameh also played well coming back to his first game in a couple weeks and scored 15 points. Team Dab went hard for their last game of the season regardless of who they were playing players like Richie, Mike, Pawan and Shady sticked with it the most.
Tough Juice brought the heat real early in this game. They moved the ball, made their baskets and played as a team. They were also very aggressive in the paint and had 55 rebounds as a team. Andre Chung had a breakout game this game scoring 47 points and 10 rebounds,a career high for him. He was hitting three pointers, getting fast break plays and driving to the basket regardless of contact. Jelani Daniel also played really well also getting a double double scoring 18 points and grabbing in 12 rebounds. Tough Juice advance to round 2 of the playoffs beat Team Dab 85 - 44.
Game 2
The second game of the night was the most competitive one with the #4 seed Defaz playing versus #5 seed Durham Flight. Both teams have performed the same this season and have their sights on that trophy as well.
Most of the game was neck and neck until half way through the second half when Defaz started to bring a lot of energy and talk to the game. The Wiltshire brothers played very efficient. They combined for 43 of The Defaz's 60 points and were the true X Factor of this game. Justin 23 points and 10 rebounds and Lamont had 20 points, 4 rebounds and a couple steals. Their 3 pointer specialist and Three point contest champ Jesse Forte hit keys shots for them hitting 4 three pointers and finishing with 13 points.
Durham Flight evened out their points between a lot of their players and played as team. Tyrell Atkins played the best for Flight with 13 points and Andrew Clarke had 11 points and 6 rebounds. With no one scoring more the 15 points against the Wiltshire brothers both scoring 20+ points, Durham Flight's performance wasn't enough to secure this win. The Defaz defeat Durham Flight 60 - 48.
Game 3
Second seed Soldiers played against Red Hawks in game 3. This game had a lot of emotion going on and ended in an unfortunate finish for one of the teams.
Red Hawks came out strong this game staying in the game with a higher seed team. Dominick Philippe got two technical in a row which got him kicked out this game, which caused a easy win for Soldiers due to Red Hawks having no subs. The 4 Red Hawks players still played hard for their last game of this season and Umar Javed scored the most with 12 points.
Soldier's did what they do best this game which was Run and Gun. More then half of Soldier's points were from fast breaks. Anthony Irispen had a break out game scoring 40 points. He was doing it all, hitting threes, attacking the basket and dunking in transition. Assisting his great play was Leon Christopher and Brenden Dehaney who both had double doubles. Leon scored 14 with 11 rebounds and Brenden scored 11 with 10 rebounds. Soldiers are another team that talked with their game in this first round, lets see how far they will get. Soldiers beat Red Hawks 68 - 41.
Game 4
Third seed Eastside Goodfellas played against the Jumpmen who upset The Soldiers the week prior so Goodfellas knew they couldn't this game for granted.
Jumpmen's Shaquille Francis played his heart out this game. He had 26 points and 7 rebounds and was trying so hard to keep his team in the game. Besides Jermaine Jones scoring 9 points Jumpmen really didnt' have anyone else to even score more then two baskets which hurt them this game.
Eastside Goodfellas Peter Okalebo has been waiting for this moment and most of the guys and a some fans were in the gym very early getting ready. Lorrington Murray and Peter Okalebo both scored 23 points combining for more then the Jumpmen scored as a team. Kevin played really well in the post grabbing in 15 rebounds and being a treat down low. They outrebounded Jumpmen 47 - 30 mostly thanks to Kevin Allen. Goodfellas beat Jumpmen 68 - 42.
