COMMERCE 17U: Power Rankings | One spot locked in and 3 playoff spots left

Anthony Qarana splitting the defense for the two points

A four team race for 3 playoff spots will headline the second half of the season. Every Tuesday night teams will separate themselves in positioning themselves to make a run against #1 Poon Patrol in the playoffs.

1) Poon Patrol (4-0, Last week #1) – In their stiffest test yet, PP once again came out on top behind Anthony Denha (27 pts) and Anthony Karana (21 pts). The team as a whole shot an amazing 63% from beyond the arc (12-19) and needed every last one of them to take down Splash Squad 76-70. They remain atop the power rankings but no longer look invincible.

2) Splash Squad (2-2, Last week #2) – Splash Squad remains here despite losing to top ranked PP in week 4. This is the most improved team throughout the season so far and is a legitimate championship contender. There may even be a few who think they are the favorite…

3) Mini Mamba (2-2, Last week #4) – Mini Mamba finally played a strong defensive game, giving up a week low 52 points in the week 4 victory. This team has all of the offensive firepower in the world, led by Julian Kamposh (27 ppg), but if they learned how to play defense? Watch out.

4) Sand Storm (2-2, Last week #3) – A simple sway here with Mini Mamba after losing a low scoring affair to MM in week #4. Shooting only 35% as a team, was this poor shot selection, excellent defense, or just a game when shots weren’t falling? Sand Storm will be in the playoff race until the end.

5) Bad Boys (2-2, Last week #3) – A win is a win but a 5-pt win over the winless “The Ballers” isn’t stirring up any excitement. While this team is technically tied for second place in the league, I predict they are on the outside looking in at the end of the season.

6) The Ballers (0-4, Last week #6) – Do you believe in Miracles? Well I don’t. I don’t see a win on the schedule, however, with a star player like Billy Sharrak on your team, I guess they could win on any given night. Just not week 5 against #1 PP.
