COMMERCE 14U: Power Rankings | Is Young Ballers GM taking too many shots?

Joe Hermiz with the tough two points

Two championship contenders emerge at the mid-season point, is anyone else going to join them during the second half of the season?

1) Mice Men (4-0, Last week #1) – Phil Qarana and his Mice Men continue to impress and are far and away the #1 team in the league at the mid-season point. Qarana is the league MVP at the halfway point averaging 27.5 points and 14 rebounds per game while shooting 51% from the field. They continue to have statistically the #1 offense AND #1 defense in the league and are well on their way to a 10-0 undefeated championship season.

2) Payroll (2-1, Last week #3) – Payroll created a big gap between the top 2 teams in the league and the rest after blasting The Sneaker Heads by 20 pts in week 4. If they have any chance of taking down Mice Men and winning a championship, they are going to have to get Franse Baka under control after a 3-26 (12% FG) performance in week 4. That kind of shot selection will result in yet another loss to Mice Men in the regular season and the playoffs.

3) Sneaker Heads (3-1, Last week #2) – Can you say exposed? In the first three weeks of the season The Sneaker Heads beat up on the bottom three of the league, yet when faced up against a top tier team, got dropped by 20. A meeting with the Mice Men to start the second half of the season could get ugly.

4) Young Ballers (1-3, Last week #4) – More concerning than the big loss to Mice Men, because everyone is losing to Mice Men, is the 18% shooting on FG in the game. Angelo Suleiman is currently shooting 24% on the season overall and 16% on 3 pt FG. That wouldn’t be a huge problem, BUT he is taking TWENTY SEVEN shots a game! If the ball doesn’t start moving better, The Young Ballers won’t be balling in the playoffs come June.

5) Bulls (1-3, Last week #6) – The Bulls may have found something in Samson Kadambi in week 4 as he busted on the scene with 26 pts in their victory. Somehow they won despite getting outrebounded by 23 and missing 10 ft’s. Those types of numbers won’t work against the upper echelon teams in the league.

6) Team Sonny (0-4, Last week #5) – Despite being winless, Team Sonny still remains only 1 game behind in the race for the final playoff spot. Their last two losses have been closer games, however, close isn’t going to cut it in the second half of the season for Team Sonny.
