COMMERCE 17U: Power Rankings | GM Armando Sulieman promises not to lose another game

Armando Suleiman and Peter Semaan after winning their game

Poon Patrol is undefeated, The Ballers haven’t won yet, and everyone else falls in between. This looks like one of the more parity ridden seasons we have had with our 17U Preps League.

1) Poon Patrol (2-0, Last week #3) – Poon Patrol continues to show off the top defensive unit in the league giving up a measly 53 points per game through 2 weeks. That, along with a balanced offensive attack led by Brady Kriko’s 20.5 ppg, have Poon Patrol with a firm lead on the #1 spot in the power rankings.

2) Sand Storm (1-1, Last week #6) – The biggest mover in this week’s power rankings due to a 69-61 win over previous #1 Bad Boys. Rami Shamo was 12-13 from the field on his way to 24 pts (and 8 reb) while Nicholas Kassab chipped in 20 more points to go along with his 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Sand Storm, which didn’t look like a playoff team at all in week 1, looked like a championship contender in week 2.

3) Bad Boys (1-1, Last week #1) – The Bad Boys ran into a buzzsaw in week 2 as Sand Storm shot an amazing 63% against them. We will chalk this one up to bad luck facing a team that shot the lights out. I still believe Bad Boys are a championship contender before it is over.

4) Mini Mamba (1-1, Last week #2) – No shame in losing to the #1 team in the league but shooting only 40% from the field and getting outrebounded by a margin of 10 are reasons for concern for Mini Mamba. Julian Kamposh won’t let this team slide too far, look for a quick bounce back in week 3.

5) Splash Squad (1-1, Last week #5) – GM Armando Suleiman followed up a poor week 1 performance with a monster week 2 performance by dropping 36 points on The Ballers, including a week high 9 3 pters. Tarik Saed also added 22 pts and 10 reb while Kyle Karmo cleaned up the glass grabbing 15 rebounds. Splash Squad looks to be an inconsistent team this session, depending too much on Suleiman and Saed’s scoring but still have the ability to beat any team on any given night.

6) The Ballers (0-2, Last week #4) – On the bright side, The Ballers are the top scoring team in the league averaging 80.5 ppg. On the down side, they are statistically the worst defensive team in the league giving up an average of 84.0 ppg. This team has definite upside being able to put the ball in the basket so efficiently. However, they are going to have to play some defense at some point.
