COMMERCE 14U: Power Rankings | Rookie Phil Qarana making a statement

Kevin Bahri, Gero Kayayan, Alex Kasmikha before their game

After two weeks, two teams stand above the rest, Mice Men and The Sneaker Heads. Can they stay undefeated until their week 5 matchup? Count me in as one person who believes they will.

1) Mice Men (2-0, Last week #2) – Another monster game from Phil Qarana (26 pts, 12 reb) has Mice Men sitting pretty at the #1 spot on our week 2 power rankings. Despite shooting just 40% as a team from the field, MM was able to pull off a 20-pt win due to a stifling defensive effort that held Team Sonny to just 43 points on 33% shooting.

2) Sneaker Heads (2-0, Last week #3) – The Sneaker Heads had the win of the week absolutely destroying the Young Ballers behind Gero Kayayan’s 42 points and a team rebounding effort where every player had 6+ rebounds.

3) Young Ballers (1-1, Last week #1) – After a great week 1 effort, The Young Ballers were equally as disappointing in week 2. 35% from the floor and 19% from distance is not going to cut it in this league.

4) Payroll (1-1, Last week #5) – A meeting with the Bulls is exactly what Payroll needed after a tough week 1 outing. Franse Baka (20 pts), Alex Kasmikha (18 pts, 10 reb), and Isaac Shounia (13 pts, 13 reb) led the way in the 66-35 victory over the hapless Bulls.

5) Bulls (0-2, Last week #4) – After a tough loss in week 1 to the Sneaker Heads, the Bulls looked like a promising team in this upcoming session. After a 31-pt defeat at the hands of Payroll while the team shot 29% from the field, 15% from 3, and 13% from the FT line, it looks like this team will be on the outside looking in of the playoff picture come seasons end.

6) Team Sonny (0-2, Last week #6) – No team has gotten off to a rougher start than Team Sonny has they have yet to be competitive in two weeks. They followed up a 19-pt loss to Young Ballers with a 20-pt loss to the Mice Men. A week 3 matchup against #2 doesn’t look very encouraging at the moment, maybe that week 4 matchup against the Bulls will give Team Sonny a shot at their first W.
