COMMERCE 17U: Power Rankings | The Bad Boys are looking to go back to back

Kyle Knouna ready for the season

Back for another exciting season. Prep 17U draft league seems more competitive this time around. GM Armando Suleiman is still trying to capture his first UH Championship after 9 seasons. Let's see how the team are looking after week 1.

1) Bad Boys (1-0) – The Bad Boys were the most impressive team in week 1 disposing of Splash Squad 68-60 behind a monster night from Anthony Qarana (33 pts, 6 reb). A double-double from Paul Qarana (10 pts, 11 reb) as well as a solid effort from Marcel Kassab (13 pts, 50% 3 pters) make the Bad Boys the way too early team to beat.

2) Mini Mamba (1-0) – In the game of the week Mini Mamba survived week 1 with a monster second half comeback (outscored opponent 49-38 2nd half) on the shoulders of Julian Kamposh’s 27 pts and 6 rebounds. Dillon Toma and Kyle Toma added 19 and 17 points, respectively, to create a three headed scoring monster and the highest offensive output of the week (82 pts). If they can clamp down on defense, watch out for this offensive juggernaut the rest of the season.

3) Poon Patrol (1-0) – Poon Patrol put together the best defensive effort of week 1, holding Sand Storm to just 51 pts on 43% shooting and outrebounding them 32-19 (+13. Anthony Denha and Brady Kriko paced the offense with 20 and 14 pts, respectively, while Anthony Karana and Christian Girjis chipped in 10 rebounds apiece to control the glass in the low scoring win. To contend for a championship, PP is going to have to find some more offensive firepower to go along with their stingy defense.

4) Team Miguel (0-1) – While Team Miguel did give up the most points of any team in week 1, on a brighter note, they scored the 2nd highest total of any team as well. All 5 players for TM scored in double digits in week 1 led by Billy Sharrak (23 pts, 6 ast) and a triple-double from Joseph Bashi (20 pts, 10 reb, 10ast). With a dynamic offense, if Team Miguel can shore up on the defensive end, they will be playoff bound by seasons’ end.

5) Splash Squad (0-1) – Splash Squad had a tough shooting night in week 1 shooting 37% from the floor including 27% from distance. With two high volume shooters in Armando Suleiman (28 attempts) and Tarik Saed (17 attempts), Splash Squad seems content to put their hopes this season around two players and whether they are hot on a given night or not. In week 1, they were not.

6) Sand Storm(0-1) – Sand Storm only put up 51 pts in week 1 and are going to have to figure things out offensively if they want to compete on a weekly basis with some of the other high powered teams this session. They may want to think of getting more shots for Nicholas Kassab, who went 4/5 (80%) from distance in week 1.
