COMMERCE 14U: Power Rankings | Rough start for last season champs

Nick Denha with his first UH game debut

Still too early to tell who the championship contenders are after week 1. Here is our best guess after the first week of games.

1) Young Ballers (1-0) – The Young Ballers won behind the power of 11 3 pters made in week 1. They are going to have to shore up their rebounding though if they want to contend for a championship as they got outrebounded 43-27 in week 1.

2) Mice Men (1-0) – Nicholas Denha (26 pts) and Phil Qarana (21 pts) led a very efficient offensive night for MM in week 1. The dynamic duo was enough to carry them to victory however they are going to need more than a combined 16 pts from the other 4 players on the roster if this team is going to be championship caliber by seasons end.

3) Sneaker Heads (1-0) – The Sneaker Heads pulled off a 58-54 game in the game of week 1. Sebastian Semma (20 pts, 73% FG) and Nicholas Jadan (18 pts, 88% FG) were the most efficient offensive duo in the league this week and look like the type of hard-nosed squad that will be playoff bound in about 8 weeks.

4) Bulls (0-1) – The Bulls made a valiant comeback in week 1 behind big offensive nights from Joseph Hermiz and Bailey Hannawa but came up just short in the 4-pt loss. I bet they would like back a few of those 11 missed FT’s now…

5) Payroll (0-1) – A very tough offensive night for Payroll (32% from the field) led to the lowest offensive output of any of the teams in week 1. Franse Baka led the team with 12 pts, however it came on 23 shots. Alex Kashmika added 10 more pts and Isaac Shounia a solid 6 pts and 10 reb. Payroll would be better served driving the ball more and not settling for so many 3 pters.

6) Team Sonny(0-1) – Team Sonny either had a really off night shooting from 3, or they need to change their offensive game plan. An abysmal night from distance (2-19, 11%) led to a blowout loss despite outrebounding YB 43-27. The rebounding is promising, but somebody has got to make a shot if this team is going to contend.
