AJAX, ON: Game Notebook Week 1 | A fresh start

Its a new day and a new beginning for the Ultimate Hoops spring league in Ajax ON. After a great draft last week teams are more balanced then they've ever been before. Lets take a look at the Day 1 recap.

Game 1 - The Soldiers vs Jumpmen
Game 2 - Tough Juice vs Eastside Goodfellas
Game 3 - Durham Flight vs Team Dab
Game 4 - The Defaz vs Red Hawks

Game 1
The newly assembled Soldiers started off the new season vs The Jumpmen. The Jumpmen had a hard time in the beginning getting used to their new team. The Soldier's Leader Anthony Irispen moved the ball with his teammates. However it was last year's underdog Leon Christopher that had a more efficient game coming off the bench scoring 15 points with 4 rebounds.

The Jumpmen's
All Star Shaquille Francis had a whopping 27 points 7 rebounds and 7 steals he was all over the place. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to seal the deal vs The Soldier's. The Soldier's beat Jumpmen 51 - 43.

Game 2
When one of the fan favourites Eastside Goodfellas approached the court for game 2 everyone took notice. On paper this team I would say is one of the best teams in the league but they didn't show it this game. The only main contributors on the Goodfellas were Lorrington Murray and Ygan Hagong who both finished with 13 points respectively.

Tough Juice
however came to play. Being one of the bigger teams in the league they showed spurts of quickness and speed and overwhelmed Goodfellas. Their star Andre Chung had a great game finishing with 21 points and 6 rebounds along with guiding his team, but the secret weapon was Andre's first draft pick Jelani Daniel who after coming in late made it rain for Tough Juice. Jelani shot 70% from the three hitting 7-10 shots giving him a smooth 21 points to end the game. Eastside Goodfellas fell to Tough Juice 66 - 37.

Game 3
The third game of the night was probably the most intense one. The new boys Team Dab showcased their skills and talent to the rest of league showing shooting ability and fancy moves. Durham Flight, another greatly put together team were trading baskets with Team Dab all game long. Team Dab's Joe Kiameh showed what he could do right off the bat hitting 5 threes in the first half and 2 in the second half finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds finishing with a double double. Harpinder Athwal also showcased his shooting ability scoring 9 in this contest.

Durham Flight
however had last year's stars Bejun Dela Cruz and Andrew Clarke. Andrew Clarke had a good game giving his team secondary chances and finishing at rim finishing with 10 points 10 rebounds. Dela Cruz had a big game to start the season dropping 24 points going 55% from the three going 6-11. There was a lot of talk about Team Dab missing their #1 pick Richie Allen hopefully they will have a full team next game. Durham Flight took this game home 52 - 44.

Game 4
The team of the Twin Towers The Defaz had a big game to start the new season playing the well talented Red Hawks. Red Hawks big boy Jeron Kerr had a big match up vs Defaz's big man Justin Wiltshire and he did a good job in the beginning. Jeron had 13 points this game but only had 4 rebounds. His teammate Dominick Phillipe had trouble dropping his buckets and there was a little frustration as a result. The Defaz took advantage of this opportunity. Justin Wiltshire did what he does best and got into Red Hawk's head but also backed up his talking scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds with the help of his guards Garth Newby and Jesse Forte The Defaz were able to capitalized a win over the Red Hawks even without their second 6'7 tower Leighton Brown who is currently injured. The Defaz take down the Red Hawks 51 - 41.

Stay tuned to more recaps and future predictions to the upcoming weeks. It's going to be a great year here in Ajax, ON.
