MONTVALE, NJ: A weird start to winter ball
Considering the unforeseen circumstances we had to deal with, it’s a good thing our first two games of the season were blowouts.
Nobody was surprised when the Ferrall Ballerz started off their title defense with a rout of the still-winless-from-last season Uncle Chubby’s. But if you looked up to the scoreboard at any point during the game, you might be a little confused. That’s because we didn’t have one.
What we had was malfunctioning equipment. Thankfully, nobody seemed to mind that our makeshift scoring method consisted of manually flipping numbers on a board that the players couldn’t even see. Screaming out the time over and over again didn’t make matters any easier.
Game two saw another laugher as the veteran Bergen Tropics returned and thrashed the newbie Cowboys. So while we had a couple of seemingly uneventful games, the scorekeepers will definitely tell you otherwise. Let’s hope that moving forward, the quality of competition, along with our equipment, improves.
Here’s Ferrall with Uncle Chubby’s newest member, Tommy Christensen. Hopefully Tommy can bring something…anything…to get these guys into the win column.
