WESTMINSTER, CO: Winter League Week 1 | The Champs Make A Statement

Shondell Lee plays lockdown defense in Hard Work's big win

Tuesday was the start of the Winter League for Westminster, CO, as ten teams will be making a run for the title. There was plenty of energy in the air, and Patrick Dudley of We Goin Sizzler even said, "there were so many people in here. It felt like a tournament." With games running on both courts, there was plenty of action for the many spectators to see.

Impact Basketball-79 The Gladiators-66
The defending champs opened their defense of the title with an impressive victory on opening night. Mike Brooks led the team in scoring with 22 points, as he was one of four players in double figures. Noel Flores led The Gladiators with 15 points of his own.

Ignite Athletics-76 Hoopsters-69
Ignite Athletics got out to a hot start to open their season, never surrendering the lead after the 15 minute mark in the first half. Ignite was led by Blake Irwin, who had 24 points on a scorching 10-11 from the field. Not to be outdone, Richard Peterson turned in the performance of the night, with 29 points and 10 rebounds.

Slam Drunk-78 The Bad Boys-75
In what was the most exciting game of the night, Slam Drunk held off The Bad Boys as tempers flared and words were being thrown around throughout the game. Slam Drunk was able to hit their free throws to ice the game and win by three.

We Goin Sizzler-55 Great Unknown-51
The Great Unknown came out firing in the first half, and went in to halftime with a slight, 26-23 lead. We Goin Sizzler caught fire from beyond the arc in the second half, hitting nine three-pointers, with six of those coming from Patrick Dudley.

Hard Work-81 Man Bear Pig-33
The finale started out as a tight contest, with the teams tied at 11 a few minutes in to the first half. That's when things started to get ugly. Hard Work went on a 70-22 run to end the game in a blowout. Carlos Matos had a very strong night, finishing with 25 points on 10-11 shooting and eight assists.
