MONTVALE, NJ: Nobody Can Stomach the Ferrall Ballerz

Andrew Mendez and RUNt are the polar opposites of the Ferrall Ballerz

With one week remaining in the regular season, the playoff field is set. Considering 80% of the league makes it into the postseason, it’s not exactly the greatest accomplishment to get in. What that does mean, however, is that there is a single squad suffering embarrassment. Is there really any surprise who it is?

The lowly Ferrall Ballerz clinched a last-place finish last night after falling to the Bergen Tropics. Wait…Who? Fittingly, the artists formerly known as Team Randy took down the Ballerz and officially passed them the torch as the league’s laughingstock immediately after changing their team name and leaving behind its less-than stellar history.

The Ballerz now stand at 1-6, with their only victory of the season coming recently after a contest in which they played five-on-four against a shorthanded Dream Team. Their season will come to an end next week after a meeting with 7-0 RUNt. Somewhere, Rob Cohan is screaming.

The scene was almost comical Wednesday as the Ballerz quite literally hobbled around in defeat to the Tropics. Against doctors’ orders, Scott Ferrall made his return after badly injuring his knee at the start of the season. He contributed five points on 2-13 shooting. Perry Mann, on his last legs, wasn’t much of a factor either with just four. Let’s not forget about Gurbir Grewal, who has missed the last few games with his own injury issues.

So good riddance for now, Ferrall Ballerz. Perhaps a healthy club could pose a threat next season, but why be optimistic? With an upcoming fall season sure to have more teams and more talent, the future may very well have more bad news in store for the bottom-feeders.
