SCOTTSDALE, AZ: Week 6 Power Rankings | Kiss of Death
Tristan Boone (SPLASH BROTHERS) drives to the hoop.
Of course the streak continued this week. Which team you ask? Well I am ashamed to say it’s me. For the fourth straight week, my number one ranked team has lost. Even worse, most of those teams have lost consecutive games. I’d like to think this is more of a coincidence, but I may be just kidding myself. I may need to call the World Health Organization and have them quarantine me.
Week 6 Power Rankings
1. SPLASH BROTHERS (4- 2, LW 3) How do you bounce back from a tough loss and counter the Borin Curse? Play a team that is winless. It’s not like this team needed it, but I think it was good for them to get back to a good rhythm and see shots go in. They should win out the rest of the year and go into the playoffs at their peak – did I just jinx them even more? I hope not, but it’s highly likely.
2. PHX BALLERS (4-2, LW 1) Looking back, it might not have been wise for me to put them #1 when I knew that last week’s matchup would be their toughest to date. I did have high hopes for this team as they have looked good for the past couple of weeks. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. I still expect this team to be in the mix once the season comes to an end. Who am I kidding – history will show that they will lose next week. Sorry guys. I’ll apologize in advance.
3. TEAM TO BEAT (3-2, LW 4) I should be mad at this team for extending my streak, but I also said this team would be top-3 by seasons end so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and call it a push. If they can get healthy, they will continue to rise. You’d think I’d learn my lesson by now, but I’ll say it anyways….I expect them to win out the rest of the year as well. BOOM!
4. PINK CANOES (3-3, LW 7) No other team has been hit as hard with the Borin Curse as this team has. After being ranked #1 to start the season, they went on to lose three straight before they were finally able to shake the bad mojo. I think this team has turned the corner and will have a strong showing moving forward.
5. TIMELIFERS (4-2, LW 6) The bleeding has stopped…for now. The Borin Curse hit them hard the last two weeks before they were able to pull out a nice win last week. They should get another win next week, but unfortunately I don’t think the worse is over yet.
6. XOVER (3-3, LW 5) I want to root for this team. They ‘ve got some really good players and can score with the best of them. It just looks like this team is missing something. As their record indicates , they’ve been up-and-down the whole year. They’ve got some good wins, but their losses are hard to watch.
7. SUPERSONICS (4-2, LW 8) This team defies all logic. I hate rating this team this low. I never feel I get them right. I want to reward them for winning, but I just don’t know which team will show up. The past two weeks, they played cupcakes so I don’t want to give them too much credit. Looking ahead, playing well in their next two games (SPLASH BROTHERS and TEMA TO BEAT respectively) will go a long way in showing the league how dangerous (or not) this team could be.
8. PILLSBURY B BOYS (3-3, LW 2) This is a really harsh drop, but the Bizoukas Mania has now officially come to an end. They haven’t looked the same the last couple of weeks. Though they fought valiantly and squeaked out a good win two weeks ago, this latest loss might be a better barometer as to what to expect from this team the rest of the way.
9. COBRA KAI (1-4, LW 9) They most likely got their one and only win of the season. I can’t imagine them beating the next three teams on their schedule. They should now just try to get into a good groove and look to play spoiler the rest of the season.
10. AMATEUR HOUR (0-6, LW 10) Looks like I’m in good company as this team continues to struggle too. They showed some good fight in some games, but against the top tier teams, they just don’t’ have enough chemistry. Hopefully most of these players take note and grow from this experience and come back better players next year.
I was told to think positive. I feel good about this week - I think I have finally settled in. Hopefully these positive thoughts work, but If you don’t hear from me after this week and I go missing, blame Donald Dangmuk for pulling the plug on my UHoops writing career. Pray for me.
