MANSFIELD, TX: UHoopaz Crowned Champs In Near Upset
UHoopaz are champs once again!
Powerhouse squad UHoopaz take the championship for the 2nd time in a row, but it wasn't nearly as easy as many would have thought. This one went down until the very end as The Fundamentalists sought to give the reigning champs the ultimate "L".
UHoopaz are used to demolishing their opponents, being far ahead of their competition several minutes before that last buzzer even sounds, but this was not the case as The Fundamentalists came with a strategic plan in attempts to cause a riveting upset. Big man and The Fundamentalists' captain Sam Bailey and his team held UHoopaz to just 32 points at the half, which is a huge deal considering UHoopaz average 106.3 points per game! A heightened sense of defense, and exceptional shooting from behind the arc from Sam threw the powerhouse team completely off guard.
But the game isn't over until that last buzzer blares. UHoopaz struggled from the start, and shot poorly from downtown (28%) which is rare for them, but made up for it by getting to the line and getting The Fundamentalists in foul trouble, eventually fouling out their hot hand Sam Bailey (who had knocked down 6 threes up until that point), and that proved to be a key game changer seeing as they had no subs. UHoopaz finished with 3 players in double digits on the scoring end, and Tristan Smith finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds in the tough win, earning him MVP for the 2nd time in a row.
Great game and congratulations to UHoopaz on another successful season! Will we see a 3-peat, which I believe isn't something that hasn't been accomplished since The Veterans era? Leave your comments below!
