AJAX, ON: Game Notebook Week 3 | Lights Out
Another night at Ajax for the Ultimate Hoops Spring league , but something was different tonight. It was raining buckets like never before. Every team showing off their range today. Looks like we need to replace the nets after this one.
Game 1 - Durham Flight vs Jumpmen
Game 2 - The Defaz vs The Soldiers
Game 3 - Red Hawks vs Eastside Goodfellas
Game 4 - Team Dab vs Tough Juice
Game 1
This game Jumpmen's Shaquille Francis was spotted in the gym very early warming up and getting his mind right for this game. He wanted to make a statement and he did. Shaq showed his athleticism and speed this game getting to the basket and creating many transition opportunities for his team. Shaq dropped 33 points and 5 rebounds and had a lot of help from sharpshooter Ted Falcon scoring 14 points. Durham Flight is a strong team and kept the lead most of the game. Dela Cruz switched gears this week grabbing 12 rebounds and getting 5 assists getting his team involved. Jonothan Samuels and Andrew Clarke had 17 and 15 respectively and did great jobs but this game the X Factor was Kyle Patterson coming back from an injury he made his statement early. Kyle hit 5 threes and some key baskets giving him a total of 22 this team and led Durham Flight to victory. Durham Flight defeat Jumpmen 78 - 61.
Game 2
Game 2 was a little unexpected what was suppose to be a more down to the wire game didn't end up being. The Defaz and Soldiers I would say are pretty even in skill and talent. This game however The Defaz were missing two key guards Dion Clarke and Jesse Forte. Justin was the only one of his team to score in the double digits with a strong 18 points and 18 rebounds. The Soldiers took advantage of this and brought it to The Defaz every possession. They did a great job in sharing the ball and contributing evenly. Jennoi Ennis had the most of their team with 13 and the rest had about 1-4 points less. The Soldiers take down The Defaz 52 - 43.
Game 3
Goodfellas coming out of 2 bad weeks in a row really decided to suck it up and bring it this game vs Red Hawks. Red Hawks were missing their big man Jeron Kerr who almost always gives them a solid double double. Red Hawks only had 5 players and only had Dominick Philippe scoring in the double digits with 18 and Brandon Blais with 9 points. In the 2nd half they started to slow down due to fatigue and Goodfellas capitalized on that. Lorrington Murray really stepped it up this game with transition buckets and smart shot selections. He had the game high with 24 points and Peter Okalebo had 16, but I wouldn't even say the points are what made the difference. It was the rebounds. The rebound count was Red hawks 27 and Goodfellas 55 more then doubling Red Hawk's effort for the boards. This created many second chance opportunities and limited the Red hawks to only one chance. Eastside Goodfellas beat Red Hawks 58 - 37.
Game 4
A very exciting game occurred last week for this final game of the day. Tough Juice vs Team Dab. Team Dab has a lot of unseen talent and it was seen here tonight with Harpinder Athwal scoring 31 points and going 50% beyond the arc. He had great help with PG Robert Roberto grabbing 8 rebounds and dropping 8 assists not worrying about scoring and helped Team Dab stay in the game for the most part but Tough Juice are just tough. Leader Andre Chung went off from the three as well dropping 5 threes and transition buckets and finished with 30 points. His teammate Stanleigh Mitchell had a very effiecent game getting tot he rim almost at will and drawing fouls. He was 77% in field goals, 100% in free throws and grabbed 9 rebounds what a great way to be productive for your team. Tough Juice sealed the win vs Team Dab 74 - 60.
