MONTVALE, NJ: Here We Go…

The Ballerz suddenly have some competition...

With a full summer season packed into a single month, we’re already a quarter of the way through. Who’s got the early edge on the competition, and who should just pack it in?

It might be early on, but we can pretty much name the final four right now. We have only six teams, and we’ve seen the bottom two quickly emerge. Sorry Bergen Tropics and Super Splash Brothers.

Consider the following: The Tropics were just outscored by the Ballerz newest stud recruit, Evan Lampert, 32-30. Needless to say, they were blown out in the game. Sure, the Tropics are 1-1, but that win came over the lowly Splash Brothers. Those guys gave up 81 to the Flint Troopers, and in two games, have scored a total of 77 points. That includes a measly 33 vs. the Tropics.

Anyway, on to the real teams. First off, look out for the Troopers. These guys feature a bunch of UH newbies, and they can play. In fact, they are the only 2-0 team left. Of course, that means the Ferrall Ballerz won’t be going undefeated again. The Ballerz dropped the very-first game of the season to Team Banner, who might end up having the most appropriate name of all.

The latest teen sensations to grace the Ultimate Hoops Montvale stage made a pretty quick impression. Ryan Matthews has scored 61 points in two games, and Derryn Bronstein isn’t far behind. Even so, the Banner boys let one slip away against the Bad Boyz, who are back after their season ended in misery two seasons ago with a controversial title game loss.

At this point, it is truly a four-team race with no real frontrunner. This should be interesting.
