SCOTTSDALE, AZ: MVP Voting | Who’s the Best of the Best

Can Fred Dudley (XOVER) add the tile of MVP to his list of accolades?

The debate that surrounds the selection of an MVP always revolves around which qualities one deems the most worthy. What I’ve often wondered is whether or not the MVP race needs to be standardized in some way to dictate a true winner. Do you vote for the best player on the best team? Do you vote for the player with the best numbers statistically? Should wins and losses be a factor in determining a player’s value to his team? Do you vote for the guy simply because you’ve seen him play more times than anybody else?

In my assessment, playing on a contender is as important as having the stats. You can score 35 points per game all you'd like, but if you play for a last place team, nobody will be discussing your name when it comes time to vote. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and no one right answer truly exists really, but should there be? I think the subjectivity is what makes this such a fun topic - regardless of how much data I use to support my picks, I’ll always be subjected to scrutiny and criticism.

There are others that have made noise throughout the season and are worthy of being discussed; it’s just that these three spectacular players are on a different level.

1. Darrin Dorsey (46.3 PRA, 36.3 PPR) - SUPERSONICS
Darrin Dorsey is not only a great scorer (33.1 PPG), but he’s also an unselfish team player as evident of his team leading 6.3 APG – which is good enough for 2nd in the league. He plays with a sense of calm and is one of the smartest players I’ve had the pleasure to watch. While every team had to worry about stopping him, his teammates stepped up and fed off the energy and encouragement he provided. His stats only tell part of the story – he brought a swagger that helped push this team to the Final Four.

2. Tyrone Jones (38.6 PRA, 30.8 PPR) – PHX BALLAS
Tyrone Jones was the undisputed leader of the team. He averaged a team leading 25.9 PPG and 9.0 RPG. His low post play made the PHX BALLAS the most efficient team in the league. The offense went through TJ – as teams decided to double big man down low, he was adept at finding the open man (3.8 APG). His strength allows him to get great position on the block – he is the hardest player to stop from going to the rim. The team’s season ended in a disappointing first round exit, but part of me can’t help but to feel that if they had TJ for that game, we might be talking about the PHX BALLAS raising a championship banner next week.

3. Fred Dudley (39.4 PRA, 26.1 PPR) – XOVER
Fred Dudley is arguably one of the most prolific scorers we have in the league (27.7 PPG). He’s a veteran of this league and anyone who has watched the games, knows what Fred brings to the table. He is without a doubt one of the best players in the league and he continues to impress game after game. He is the go to player for XOVER - as he goes, so does the team. His smooth play and scoring touch is a joy to watch. While this team had their hiccups in the middle of the season, the one constant was Fred putting in buckets. Despite the disappointing seeding going into the playoffs, this team has found its groove and they find themselves arguably the favorites to win the ‘chip.

Who will walk away with the league's coveted MVP award? Make your voice heard and vote for who you think is the most deserving here.

We willl tally all the votes and announce the winner next week.

All Star Game will be held September 18th after the Championship Game in Scottsdale.

The final two spots have been tallied and the fans have spoken. Congratulations to:

1. Brett Bernabuam - SPLASH BROTHERS

2. Randy Bronner - XOVER

The Playoff Bracket is posted under the SCOTTSDALE Schedule

As always, if you agree with what I‘ve said, give me a shout out. If you disagree, keep it to yourself, no one needs to know. Just kidding, feel free to call me out too- I’ll most likely not pay attention to it anyways.
