ST. LOUIS RECAP: Silent Assassins finish 7-1, earn first round bye | Rose goes for 21 points
Action from the Ultimate Hoops West County League in St. Louis
West County League Coordinator Scott Womble contributed to this article
West County, MO- In a night of games with great meaning, XB Fit had the benefit of seeing Silent Assassins hand them a favor in game one as they defeated Fab 5 by a score of 82-47.
That meant if XB Fit could take care of business in game 2, they would secure a bye in the first week of the playoffs next week. XB Fit came through with a resounding 70-43 victory over last place Pick & Pop.
David Watson had 18 points and 14 rebounds for XB Fit in the victory. Pick & Pop simply never got on track as they shot a miserable 29% from the field. To top that off, XB Fit out rebounded Pick & Pop 36-22.
With the win, Silent Assassins moved to 7-1 and easily secured the other bye. Sean Rose had 21 points on 7/9 shooting from three point range. Erwin Daniels added 20 points and Matt Londoff grabbed nine rebounds.
The Assassins shot 52% from the field. One has to wonder why opponents sit back and watch the Assassins launch three pointer after three pointer. It seems apparent that if someone is to knock off the perennial champions, it will take an aggressive defense who comes out and challenges their excellent perimeter shooters.
The best game of the night was the nightcap which Legs Feed the Wolf pulled out with a 64-60 win over Fire in the Hole. Fire in the Hole went into halftime with a commanding 35-22 lead but then got outscored 42-25 in the second half. Vincent Cook willed his team to victory with a dominating performance. Cook finished with 18 pts (7/10 FG), 15 rbs and 7 asts.
As the teams head into the playoffs, the standings sit as follows:
Silent Assassins 7-1
XB Fit 6-2
Fab Five 5-3
Legs Feed the Wolf 3-5
Fire in the Hole 2-6
Pick & Pop 1-7
