MANSFIELD, TX: The SQUAD is No More
Former SQUAD player Sean Erhardt (Right) helps his teammate on defense
It's been a tough ride for The SQUAD since joining the league 2 seasons ago, and unfortunately we will not be seeing them at all during Fall play. So, what happened?
The SQUAD surely had potential to become a powerhouse when ex-captain/team leader Marcus Scruggs formed the team during the Spring 2013 season, and even though the team was literally created a few days before the first game, you could say he had the "luck of the draw" when he selected his teammates, but there was one BIG problem.
Scruggs had a talented group of guys on his roster, but unfortunately could never get them to all show up as a unit on any given league night. In other words, they were always missing players, significant players for that matter. Whether it was miscommunication, priority conflicts, or lack of interest altogether--it's anyone's guess. This was clearly seen in their first season, as they finished at 2-7.
One player in particular, who joined Scruggs' team during the Summer season, wasDelvon Brown, who proved to be a more than worthy pickup averaging 22.1 points and just over 7 rebounds a game. Even with talents such as this, the team's lack of cohesiveness ended up being the main cause of their demise. Scruggs often said that if his team would just show up all together, at once, then they'd have a chance.
We won't be seeing The SQUAD this season (along with a few other familiar players we are used to seeing and hearing about, mainly due to college), but we will be seeing a couple of former SQUAD players out there still competing, aiming to take that #1 spot, just with a different team, We Get Buckets (Formerly Redeem Team) who lost nearly their entire team as well. Will we ever see The SQUAD again? Will this new alliance prove successful for the former SQUAD players? Drop your thoughts in the comment box below!
