GILBERT, AZ: Winter 2016 | All First and Second Team

Even with the reigning MVP and Rookie of the Year, does SET IT OFF have what it takes to bring home a banner to Gilbert?

Stats play just one part in the discussion. We’ve also taken into account, the value each of these players has brought to their team. Everyone is entitled their opinions and no right answers truly exist really, but I think the subjectivity is what makes this such a fun topic - regardless of how much data we use to support the picks, we’ll always be subjected to scrutiny and criticism.

Without further ado, here are your Winter 2016 All-Team candidates:

All Gilbert 1st Team
Pasquale Brocco (22.9 PPG, 8.1 RPG, 5.4 APG - 36.4 PRA, 29.9 PPR) - SET IT OFF
Back to back?? Well yes why not. It was a well-deserved MVP for one of the top caliber players we have. The numbers weren’t as dominate as they were last year, but that speaks more to his IQ and leadership than anything else. His scoring (i.e. deadly mid-range) is always going to be on point, but I saw growth in his defense and rebounding this year. SET IT OFF is deep and talented across the board, but he is a big reason why they are able to do what they do.

Steven Wess (26.8 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 5.8APG - 36.9 PRA, 22.6 PPR) – GRINDIN
Steven has started to become a household name in the UH family. There is a reason why he was in the discussion for league MVP all season long - he is one of the more deadly scorers we have that can (and will) pull up just about anywhere on the court. He’s improved his 3-point shooting this season, but what I am more impressed with is his playmaking – you could tell that he worked on that aspect of his game all off season and it showed. This guy is hungry and strives to be the best player in the league.

Zach Henningsen (28.4 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 3.9 APG – 38.9 PRA, 25.6 PPR) – GAME OVER
Zack is one guy we rarely talk about and that’s on us. In his season and a half with UH, he has been the model of consistency - there are games where he just straight up wows us with his shooting and can get hot on a dime. He’s one guy that you rarely hear from on the court, but his game is damn impressive and his numbers this year solidifies that fact. On a team stacked with talent from top to bottom, to me, he is without a doubt one of the best, if not the best player, on GAME OVER. I wouldn’t be surprised if he moves into the MVP discussion in upcoming seasons.

Will Sorensen (26.9 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 4.3 APG – 38.4 PRA, 25.6 PPR) – STAFF BROTHERS
The team has seen numerous players come through, but Will was a big reason why this team finally broke through this season and was viewed as true contenders. He has shown the league that he is as versatile as they come and that he can score with the best of them. He has a long, smooth shot and can get his shot off anytime he wants – but the biggest thing about him is that he has been willing to do what is needed for this team to win. The game is not too big from him and there’s no one else I would rather have taking late game shots than him (though you did miss two free throws late in Tuesday’s 1st round game, but I won’t hold that against you too much).

Brent Canada (20.7 PPG, 11.2 RPG, 2.1 APG – 34.0 PRA, 22.1 PPR) – GRINDIN
In his second season, Brent continues to impress game after game and is as solid as they come. The wins just weren’t there (I attribute that more of a lack of depth on the team), but there weren’t many bigs that could keep up with him this season. He’s a solid rebounder and he always does a great job establishing himself with his array of low post moves on the low block. His presence on defense made it hard for guards to get in the lane and get off good shots. If he continues to put his mind to it, he could be one of the more proficient bigs we’ve had in UH.

All Gilbert 2nd Team
Boo Wade – SET IT OFF; Rookie of the year.
Kyli Crooms – STAFF BROTHERS
Darrell Hunter – GRINDIN
Josh Hunter – GAME OVER
Jeremiah Price – HEAT WAVE
