GILBERT, AZ: Week 5 Power Rankings | The cream rises to the top

SET IT OFF continues their winning ways and there may be no stopping them now

Week 5 Power Rankings

1. SET IT OFF (5-0, LW 1) – They knew the target was on their back after being newly ranked #1 but they didn’t let up. They came out strong and proved that they deserve to be the top dogs. They will not go easy into the night and now get even scarier with the waiver wire pick up of the year. Their offense was a potent already but now they add 6’10’’ Tre Ford to shore up that defense. Good luck Gilbert…you’ll need it.

2. GAME OVER (4-1, LW 2) – A nice bounce back win after relinquishing the top spot last week. They know the loss will hurt their chances to win the league championship, but I have a feeling that this wasn’t the ultimate goal of this veteran group. It is and always has been State Championship or bust. I still think they have too many lapses on defense and can go flat sometimes on offense, but the late addition of Kenny Mahone should help.

3. STAFFBROTHERS (3-2, LW 3) – They were missing their 2 biggest offensive threats but showed some heart and made it a game last week versus GAME OVER late. It’s clear that Reggie Jackson, if he puts his mind to it, can dominate on the block. In reality though, this team will only go as far as Will Sorenson can take them.

4. GRINDIN (1-4, LW 5) – The up and down season for this group has had more downs than ups. They have played better than their 1-4 record shows, but in this league, we don’t track close calls. Wins are what we all play for and they are just not putting enough together late to earn those W’s. They did not shoot well last week and looked to be forcing bad shot after bad shot. Granted last week they ran into a motivated SET IT OFF team and just didn’t match well, but that still shouldn’t be an excuse for this group.

5. HEATWAVE (1-4, LW 6) – They finally played like I expected them too…hard and to the end. They were able to sustain their moment and ride enthusiasm throughout the game last week. The ball moved better than I have ever seen them do all year and they finally made that one extra pass to get everyone involved (instead of forcing a bad shot). I’ve said all year that if they just played with some sense of team ball, their shooting can (and should) keep them in all their games this year. Great job gentlemen…let’s keep the momentum going!

6. HITTIN TRIPS (1-4, LW 4) – I assumed that they were going to use the previous loss as motivation going into last week…boy was I wrong. That loss seemed to linger with this group as they were out hustled for every loose ball and gave up too many easy shots. There was still too much bickering late in the game for my liking. The team chemistry is just not there and it seems like players are unsure what their role is on the team. To say that this team is the biggest disappointment is an understatement…this team is too talented to be only 1-4.
