GILBERT, AZ: Week 2 Power Rankings | Get Back At It

Trent Hall (HITTIN TRIPS) gives his team much needed size of the bench

Week 2 Power Rankings

1. GAME OVER (2-0, LW 1) – Is this the year? Is this the team that finally puts it together and goes deep into the tournament? We’ve asked this before and the ending hasn’t lived up to the hype. It’s up Donald Didlake now to bring up his level of play and prove to this league that this team means business. The proverbial target is always on their backs. Can they live up to this or will the pressure get to them again?

2. GRINDIN (1-0, LW 2) – The controversial win from Week 1 has left a bad taste to many in this league. They still need some time to gel, but in the meantime, they need to find a reliable go-to scorer week-in, week-out to better compete in this league. Not one game makes a season, but with a bye last week, Andrew Lebowitz and company need to have a strong showing this upcoming week to make people realize that this team has championship potential and put the “lucky” win behind them.

3. REGULATORS (1-1, LW 3) - This team added league veteran Kenny Mahone to give them a much needed second scorer to play alongside Jason Tollefson. However, they both need the ball in their hands to be effective and it will be interesting to see if they can co-exist and learn to play with each other. Win or lose, frustration will mount if either of them feels as if they aren’t getting enough touches. If this team stays intact all season, they may be latest to make some noise this season.

4. HITTIN TRIPS (1-1, LW 4) – They had a stellar year last year but fell short in the tournament. They do lose their main scorer from last year, Conner Helvig, but now they can focus their offense around big man Matt Cooper. There is a definite lack of size in the league this year so Matt will definitely be able to shine. He was limited last year and wasn’t utilized properly, but I think this is his year to show the league what he can do. I expect him to put up MVP type numbers.

5. SET IT OFF (1-1, LW 5) - They had a disappointing end to the season and that forced them to make some major changes to their team. But this may be the perfect example of addition by subtraction (*cough* Ryan Brown *cough*). Pasquale Brocco has been a pleasant addition and continues to impress with his play. He will be unanimous pick for Rookie of the year in Gilbert if he keeps this up. They lost some size this year, but adding a consistent scorer they were missing last year should pay dividends down the road.

6. JUST DO IT (0-1, LW 7) - New Season, new players, same story. Travis Woolword has done a good job bringing in some veterans to the league but it looks like it is going to take some time for this team to gel. One of the positives I can note, Donovan McNabb looks like he’s still got the shooting touch and will be a name we need to keep an eye out for the rest of the season.

7. GILBERT FA (0-2, LW 6) – They have some veterans of the league playing for them, so if they can get it going early and establish a sound rotation, they should be able to compete throughout the season, but as with any and all FA teams, it’s a tough battle to compete in this league when you throw 6-8 random guys together to play as a team.
