WESTMINSTER, CO: Week 2 Preview | A week of statement games
FireSquad looks to continue their winning ways
We are off and running in the Westminster summer season. We have some great matchups in week two. Let's take a look at this week's games.
Long Shots vs. The Kardashians
Both teams are coming off tough losses in week one and are looking to bounce back this week. Neither team played bad in the first game of the season, they just didn’t get some calls or shots to go their way and the rest is history. These two teams met last year and put on quite a show and I expect much of the same in this weeks game as well. The Long Shots will generally try to out run their opponent while The Kardashians play a much slower pace of basketball. This should be a quite a good game to start off the night of hoops.
Slam Drunk vs. The Bad Boys
The Bad Boys are coming off their first regular season win in well...forever. Jk, but seriously. With the addition of Matt Lloyd and Kyle Norman, the Bad Boys have gone big this season and it worked well for them in week one. Slam Drunk was on the receiving end of a bad beat down in week one and have seem to have lost their chemistry they once had. This isn’t the same Slam Drunk team as in prior seasons so it will be on this team to create a new identity. The Bad Boys will most likely dominate inside the paint while Slam Drunk will be shooting mostly jump shots. This game will be close down to the wire.
Bro Science Life vs. Scorgasm
In the match-up of the night, Beau Barney and Scorgasm will be heading it off against Justin Meineke and his Bro Science Life. Both teams are coming off week one victories and have made strong showings for the title of best team in the league. ESPN’s Marc Stein reports that Justin Meineke once said that he is the best player the league has ever seen and that not even Beau Barney could stop him. The anticipation for this game will be immense while most the gym will be focused on this exciting match-up. Scorgasm didnt have their whole roster their last week so it will be interesting to see who really is on their team. Bro Science Life is a seasoned team and play well together and that makes them one of the harder teams to beat in this league.
Big Trouble in Little Westy vs. Splash City
Two Blowout wins in week one, both teams are coming into this game feeling confident. Splash City is a form of their former team Hard Work but aren’t nearly as opposing as in past seasons. Big Trouble is a young team with scorers at every position. Carlos Matos and Ruben Rivas lead their team and that combo of guards is hard to beat. Luckily, Big Trouble has the speed and athleticism to stay with them and they will need to play great on the defensive end of the court to get the victory. This should be a high scoring game and one that is sure to have some intense basketball action.
FireSquad vs. The Gladiators
FireSquad is confident after Richard Peterson’s week one game winning shot and will look to stay undefeated against a struggling Gladiators team. It's disheartening to see a Gladiators team that is a shell of what they used to be. Really, the only remaining player from leagues past is Captain Saul Chavira. The Gladiators aren’t an up and down team any more but do have some quality big men who can dominate the paint inside. If this team can find their chemistry, they could be a tough team to beat come later on in the season. The Gladiators will be aggressive with FireSquad and it will be on FireSquad to rise to the challenge and push back. This game has the makings to be pretty interesting.
Life Time Legends vs. Young Bucks
The Life Time Legends showed sparks of great basketball last week and were actually close for most of the game. A lot of the players on that team surprised many last week and if they can build some chemistry, they can be seen winning some games this season. Young Bucks were simply outmatched last week and the result showed. Young Bucks just need to get adjusted to the style of Ultimate Hoops and they will be competitive when they do as a result, This game will be close, as two rookie teams will square off.
