SCOTTSDALE, AZ: Week 6 Power Rankings | A Fight to the Finish

Jesse Childs (20 or Better) leads an impressive group of guards that may prove to be too much for other teams

Week 6 Power Rankings

1. 20 OR BETTER (5-0, LW 1) – After all the hype in the beginning of the season, they have weathered the storm and proven themselves as the team to beat. They don’t necessarily beat you with flash, but what they do well is stay within their game and they make very few mistakes on the floor. Team ball at its finest is displayed with this group.

2. BALL SO HARD (5-1, LW 2) – First and foremost, a big congrats goes out to this team as they went to Vegas and proved to the nation that UHoops AZ is legit. They look to stay in a groove and finish out the season on a high note. Their offense may come and go, but one thing they do pride themselves on is their defense. They are long and athletic on the wings. The only question is will they be able to sustain this level or success or will they just rest on their laurels.

3. SPLASH BROTHERS (3-1, LW 3) – Last week was a bye, but it was mainly for them to rest up for the Vegas tournament. This allowed perennial MVP candidate Nick Tomsick to get a few warm up games before leading the final push in the regular season. It will take some time for this team to readjust but I doubt it will take more than a game or two.

4. XOVER (4-2, LW 4) – Uh oh, this team may be hitting their stride now. After a so-so start to the season, they’ve been impressive the last few weeks. With Tim Harris out for the season, GM Chris Fisher made a great mid-season pickup by adding DeWayne Pettus. Look for him and Delonn to do big things the rest of the season.

5. TWISTED STEEL WITH SEX APPEAL (3-3, LW 5) – I don’t really know what to do with this team. They run hot during stretches, but then there are times when they just look out of sync. I’ve heard grumblings of players not being happy with their role. This looks to be another up and down season for this group which could mean a potential early round tournament exit if they don’t get their act together soon.

6. LOCKDOWN (2-4, LW 7) – Still one of the more underrated teams we have as they have all the right pieces to compete. However, just like most of the other teams, they need to be more consistent and concentrate on defense a bit more. They have extended shooting slumps throughout the game and it seems to impact their effort on defense. If they can just muster up some more energy, they can potentially make a few upsets come tourney time.

7. TIMELIFERS (2-4, LW 9) – They stop a 3 game losing streak and look like the team we are accustomed to (ball movement on offense, solid rotation on defense). This recipe for success is an easy one and has proven to work in the past for them. The return of Kyle Rivas will be big for them as they now have an added proven scorer.

8. SUPERSONICS (1-5, LW 8) – Frustration can be seen on their faces after every game. They go in with the hopes and optimism that they can and should compete with anybody; however the outcome proves otherwise. They aren’t moving the ball as well as they should and their defense is suspect at best. They have 2 games left to get it together, but it will have to be against the 2 best team in the league…yikes.

9. WE DEM BOYZ (2-4, LW 6) - Last week was just a straight ol’ fashion beat down (43 to 100??). After the first 10 minutes, it looked like they were all ready to call it a day and head home for the night. This lack of fight will surely linger and have a negative impact on their team. Not sure how this team will move forward, but this has to knock their confidence and team morale down a few notches. Hopefully they can bounce back but this level of adversity is hard to overcome.

10. MIGHTY MORPHIN FLOWER ARRANGERS (1-4, LW 10) – Has there been a more disappointing ending to team? Not sure if there are any players on this team. Let this be a lesson out there for you kids, you are responsible for your actions but just know that your actions impact not only just you but your teammates as well.
