MANSFIELD, TX: Heavy Hitters Strive For Perfection
Week 1 started off with a rivalry from last season that proved to be just as, if not, even more intense than before as we got a bit of De Ja Vu with The Vets going toe-to-toe with the reigning champs Heavy Hitters in Game 1 to start off the Summer Season here at Mansfield. A lot has changed with the championship squad, but is it for the better?
Heavy Hitters have taken a heavy blow this season with the loss of pretty much the entire team, including young UHoops star Jacob Van who had an outstanding season in the Spring, and was key to their dominating success. Other key players like Josh Gbolabo and PF Al Hurd are also missing in action this season. HH Captain Paul Smith had to do some quick thinking to keep his team active and alive, and he may have just added the perfect additions to make up for his lost comrades.
After having a very successful Spring season, the Lunch Ballers looks as if they may be sitting this season out due to time conflicts and other issues, which has led to Paul Smith acquiring sharp shooter Dillon Puckett who tends to be very accurate from beyond the arc. He shot 67% from both the field and the 3 point line as they went on to defeat The Vets 68-65.
Heavy Hitters finished last season at 9-1, and are going for the perfect record this season, but the competition seems to get tougher and tougher with each game. Team chemistry won't be the exact same, and they are still struggling to find candidates to fill in those gaps that were crucial to their success. Can they pull off a perfect season? Should they still be considered top contenders for the trophy, or is too early to tell? Leave your comment below!
