PHOENIX, AZ: Week 3 Power Rankings | Bulls Regain Top Spot

The Bulls

Defense? What’s this top defense you’re talking about? After dismantling the Head Bustas and their top ranked defense this week the Bulls have regained the top spot in our latest power rankings. Look where your team falls this week…

Week 3 Power Rankings

1. BULLS: It doesn’t matter who you put around Mark Hanoosh and Brandon Walker, they are going to find a way to destroy you. The Bulls have had a different starting lineup every week this season and have found a way to win by 20+ in 3 straight weeks. Doesn’t matter who shows up, they just find a way to win. After dropping 104 points on top ranked defense Head Bustas this week they are the unquestioned top ranked team this week.

2. MONSTARS: Are they just getting bored? The Monstars were in a dogfight this past week vs Echelon but found a way to pull away late in the game led by their team captain Quentin Lawrence with 30 points and Matt Alvarado chipping in 24 as well. But its guys like Kenny Mahone and Tyler Labrum that makes this team great doing all the dirty work that makes a team successful in my opinion. The points are great but Kenny’s 6 steals and Tyler’s 13 rebounds this week are stats that often get overlooked. This team is still the most balanced team in the league but will they have the firepower to stop the Bulls?

3. LIFETIME TEMPE: After winning 2 straight they deserve a bump in the rankings. Their wins aren’t very pretty but they just grind away and find a way to beat you. Will Sorensen has quickly acclimated himself on the team very nicely chipping in with 17 points this week and has been a great pickup for the team. Sean Eddy is a double double machine and has been a huge reason for this teams success. With Who’s Next on the schedule next, will they possibly start the first half of the season 3-1?

4. HEAD BUSTAS: I hate having to drop this team down but after getting torched this past week by the Bulls I really have no choice. It would have been interesting to see if sharp shooter Jesse McCain in the lineup would have made a difference. But that’s why having depth in this league is key and that was something I was worried about with the Head Bustas. The big 3 will need more help if they want to hang with the big dogs.

5. UPPER ECHELON: 0-3 and ranked in the top 5? Yes that’s right. That’s what happens when you add 2 game changers in Joe Hormes and Delvin Brown to the team. Delvon put up 32 this week and in my opinion probably is the most athletic player in the league. After almost pulling off an upset this week over the Monstars, this team is set for a breakout and I think it’s coming soon. Then again I could be wrong and they start 0-5. Good thing its only week 3 and I still have plenty of time to jump off the bandwagon if I need to.

6. GILBERT: The Tempe team will probably rip me for this one since they beat Gilbert in week 1 but honestly I just flipped a coin to determine this spot. I moved Gilbert up one spot this week because they are coming off a win. Star forward Michael Rose has finally put it all together and has really stepped up as a vocal leader for this team. Michael and point guard Carter Rushton have formed a very nice 1-2 punch and it’s really nice to see this team finally develop some chemistry and get a win this week.

7. TEMPE: Josh Henderson had a coming out party pouring in 28 points this week but didn’t get much help this week from his teammates. James Braxton and Kenem Partee will need to get it going next week if they plan on having any chance against the Monstars. This team is very talented but everyone plays the same position. I think if they could add a talented playmaking point guard by the week 5-waiver deadline they could make some serious noise.

8. WHO’S NEXT: Ranked dead last in points per game and 2nd to last in points allowed. That’s a recipe for disaster for any team. Kris Hennen is quietly having an All Star Season averaging a double double with 17 points and 14 rebounds per game. It’s still early and with 2 more weeks to sign some quality free agents its not to late to have a turnaround season. Will top free agent Nick Tomsick from Scottsdale be ready to suit up in week 4?
