PHOENIX, AZ: Week 2 Predictions
Tempe Staff Borin Ngov and Wayne Ung
Opening night was everything I can ask for with 2 games being decided by 5 points or less. Some teams were a little rusty but that’s to be expected for the first game since last Spring. Now that every team has one game under their belt and has settled in, I can’t wait for week 2 to begin. Lets get started with this week’s predictions…
6:00 – Tempe vs. Bulls
This will be a big test for Tempe and a good game to measure themselves against one of the top teams in the league. Free Agent teams usually need a few weeks to develop some chemistry but after last week’s barn burner and escaping with a narrow win over cross town rival Gilbert this team has already proven they have what it takes to close out close games. As for the Bulls, lets just hope the other half of the team shows up this week. If they do, I don’t see how they lose this game. Prediction: The Bulls by 10.
7:00 – Gilbert vs. Head Bustas
This will be an interesting game at the very least. Gilbert is coming off a 5 point loss and hungry for their first win. Team Gilbert is another free agent team but I noticed they started developing some chemistry in the 2nd half of last weeks game and can’t wait to see them put it all together for a full game this week. They are ranked last in the power rankings this week but I think that might be changing once they figure out how to play with each other. Head Bustas came out the gates a little rusty last week and escaped with a 2-point victory over Who’s Next. But they will be fine once they get sharp shooters Jesse McCain and Joe Castaneda going this week. Prediction: Head Bustas by 6.
8:00 – Who’s Next vs. Monstars
Monstars are coming into this game ranked #1 in the league and on paper should have no problem winning. But with Who’s Next coming off of a 2 point loss and still livid from the last game, I’m sure they will be bringing some heat against the top team in the league. Who’s Next is a solid veteran team and will not back down to anyone. I hope the Monstars are ready for a slow down physical game. However, if they are able to get out and run, this game can turn ugly pretty fast. Kris Hennen and Lawrence Taylor of Who’s Next are 2 of the most competitive players in the league—really looking forward to see them battle against this talented Monstars team. This game is hard to predict as it can go either way: it could be a 2 point game or a 20 point game. Prediction: Monstars by 8.
9:00 – Upper Echelon vs. Lifetime Tempe
This is going to be an exciting match up. Both teams got blown out last week and will be fighting to get their first win. It has bloodbath written all over it. It will be interesting to see Echelon big man Joseph Huber play the entire game this time and see what this team can do with him in the lineup for a full game. Someone might want to bring an extra pair of shorts just in case. Casey Day was released last week from the team after getting in a scuffle with one of his teammates. Lifetime Tempe has found the answer at point guard with Jessica Groth spreading the floor with her 3 point shooting. That should open things up for star forward Marcus Atkins to go to work. Prediction: Upper Echelon by 4.
