DETROIT: McKinsey Golfin nets Most Valuable Player award for Shelby; Wilson, Koshay also honored

And with another successful season coming to a close, we find ourselves with another set of hardware to hand out in Detroit.

Most Valuable Player: Mckinsey Golfin. After losing UH legend, Demarcus Reid, Golfin had to make a decision. He could either reassemble his squad and make the most of his season. Golfin not only put up significant statistics, by averaging 26.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists, but he did so while helping to elevate his team to a #1 seed heading into the playoffs.

The Sixers benefited from the return of Larry Bienkowski and a revamped backcourt of Shawn Swanson, Doc Darius Summers, and Nico Genova, but Golfin was the go-to man nearly the entire season at any given moment. Ultimate Hoops 6th All-Time leading scorer, Golfin heads into the Veteran's League playoffs on a 3 game winning streak.

Defensive Player of the Year: Jovaughan Wilson. Jovaughn is no stranger to awards, as he finds himself on the two-time returning championship squad. Last year's MVP deferred more to his teammates this season on the scoring end and put up his usual performance on the defensive side of the ball.

11.9 rebounds, 1.9 steals, and 1.1 blocks. Add to that about 10 additional shots that change direction each game and you have a force that is almost impossible to reckon with.

Rookie of the Year: Clifford Koshay. Todd Lueck has found himself another gem in Cliff. Cliff is one of the Veteran's Leagues true gentlemen, as he plays the game with the type of class you would expect from an experienced wing man.

Averaging 9.8 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals and 1.5 blocks, he nearly unseated Wilson as the Defensive Player of the Year. The addition of Koshay has added yet another dimension of depth to a Lakers squad still vying for a Championship.



With the playoffs starting on January 4th, you can expect each of these players to be in the mix, as the Hooters attempt to go for their 4th straight championship.

The early favorites are the Jeff Wertz Bulls, who have had the Warriors beat in successive games only to fold late in each match-up.

It should be interesting to watch.
