BLOOMINGTON SOUTH, MN: Tropics on the Way Up? Check Hawkins Week 7 Predictions

Does Last Weeks Win Put Them in the Top Tier of Team?

Back down to earth with a 5-2 record last week. Time to regain the mojo this week.

Lockdown vs. Rebels

Well now, how to start this breakdown? I usually give my team the benefit of the doubt and say that if we work hard and play smart we will have a chance. I still would love to us play with heart and play hard, but I really don't think this game will be remotely close.

Guerrillas vs. Riddlers

Big win last week for the Riddlers. They got huge games from their guards last week and shot great percentage from the field (52% and 50% from three). Combined with their big men if the guard can stay that efficient scoring the ball this team might be back on track as one of the top seeds in the playoffs.

I don't will miss the playoffs but if they want a first round bye they are will need a statement win and this is there last chance to get one this season. It will take a big defensive effort to get it done. Unfortunately for the Guerrillas they have problems with effort for extended periods of time.

I would think that at times when you watch this game that the Guerrillas belong in the talks of the better teams in Bloomington but at times they will look lost and lazy. This is when the Riddlers will pull away.

Huskies vs. Timberpuppies

On paper this game shouldn't be as close as I think it will be. The Huskies have the size to guard the Timberpuppies and they also have good shooters and against the Timberpuppies 2-3 zone that is something you need to stay in the game. I would expect Josh Hoyle to have a big game with most of his buckets coming from the three point line. Also if Heath Stoll can get hot and take smart shots this game could be trouble for the Timberpuppies.

Does this mean that I'm smelling upset in this one. I really want to say yes. I love the fight that the Huskies bring every week and I see how much they have improved every week, but every time this season when I think they are going to upset someone they just come up just a bit short. I think that we will see another game that is very close and down the wire and the Huskies will fall just a bit short.

Red Devils vs. Supersonics

The Supersonic got their first win of the season last week. They got there with defense and rebounding. While their defense should find similar success this week the Red Devils are a big team and will most likely beat them on the boards.

The Red Devils won there last game and continue the trend that is if they can bully you they can beat you. Each of their wins has come when they out rebound the other team while in both of their losses they have been out rebounded. The Supersonics aren't the best rebounding team (worst in the league but their forfeit game counts against those number so I don't know how accurate that is) which means the Red Devils should be able to win the rebounding battle.

St. Baul vs. Blue Chips

The game of the night. With both teams at 3-2 this game should decide who will be an auto bid and who will be playing an extra game to try and get into the playoffs. Not only that but these two teams are very very similar in talent and size and should be a great match-up.

Looking through the stats the thing that stands out is the defensive side of the stats. St. Baul has twice the amount of steals and twice as many blocks as the Blue Chips. I like to think that when two teams that are closely matched the game will come down to effort and those stats show effort. This is why I am taking St. Baul.

Thunder vs. Clem's Kidz

I love to look at Clem's Kidz stat line. For those who didn't know they have a guy that is putting up 21.5 ppg and 9.5 rpg and another that have been averaging a double double at 10.5 ppg and 13.5 rpg. I would give a shout out here to them but I don't want to steal the fun of looking them up. Don't think this will get them a win versus the Thunder as it hasn't done it yet but should be fun to see if they can keep it up.

Tropics vs. WatchaMaCallits (F.A.)

Where has that Tropics team been all season? That game last week was impressive to watch. Everyone was knocking down shots and after about five minutes you could tell that the game was over and every time I checked back the lead was increased by around ten points. I have been on the fence wondering if the Tropics were one of the elite or just a playoff filler team. After that win they might be one of the elites.

After what looked like a promising start to the season the WatchaMaCallits are in need of at least one more win, and more than likely a statement win, to make the playoffs. Although I didn't get to stay and watch their game last week it seems to me that they fell due to the same issues. They play well when they play inside out. Once they start chucking up threes the free agents struggle to score and being that they have only a couple good defensive players they need to be efficient and consistent on offense for them to win.

This game is going to be tough for the free agent squad. With the Tropics Ned Tieche in the middle the free agents are more than likely start forcing threes and the game will go down hill.
