COMMERCE REC: Power Rankings | Only one team still undefeated
Brandon Nafso passes the ball when stopped by defender Steven Reynolds
Four weeks have passed and we are down to only ONE unbeaten team. How do the rest shake out? Check it out in our weekly power rankings.
1) C4 (4-0, Last #1) – Four weeks and four wins, business as usual for C4. They may face their stiffest challenge of the year in longtime nemesis Hit Squad and GM Devante Pennyman in week 5, but look for Jason Rennie and Jeff Jayson to continue to bomb 3’s on the league and pull out another win.
2) Shelby’s Finest (3-1, Last #4) – A very impressive 21 point victory (75-54) over previously unbeaten Hit Squad catapults Shelby’s Finest up to the #2 spot in our rankings. The debut of east side star player Johnnie Brown and his efficient 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists make SF the leading contender to take down C4 this session.
3) Hit Squad (3-1, Last #2) – What has happened to the Hit Squad? A team that looked like they were ready to run the table through weeks 1 and 2, has since squeaked out a 1-pt victory over winless Sons of Basketball and got run out of the gym by Shelby’s Finest 75-54. GM Devante Pennyman better hope his team brings their “A” game this week, or C4 might just win by 30. We will find out a lot about this team at 10:00 p.m. tonight when they take on the unbeaten, top ranked squad and their wide array of offensive weapons.
4) Running Rebels (1-3, Last #3) – The Rebels may be 1-3, but two of those losses come at the hands of C4. The back half of the schedule is much friendlier to the Rebels and I would expect to see them lock up the 4th and final playoff spot before the season is over. I could easily see the Rebels going 3-1 down the stretch to finish at 4-4, if not winning out and ending at 5-3.
5) Weekend Warriors (1-3, Last #6) – The Warriors finally got their first W of the season over Sons of Basketball in week 4. SOB had no answer for big man Scott Kapeller’s lights out shooting (24 pts, 6 3 pters). The true test on whether the Warriors have turned a corner will be answered tonight when they face the likes of McKinsey Golfin, Vaughn Gray, and Johnnie Brown and Shelby’s Finest. With Kapeller out, the rest of the Warriors squad will have to step up to stop the red hot team from the East Side.
6) Sons of Basketball (0-4, Last #5) - Being the only team without a win so far and having Joel Simpson questionable due to a sore back, Sons of Basketball looks like they are on the outside looking in of the playoff race at this point. GM Darius Statum is open to any help he can at this point and may be deploying a secret weapon in week 5 to try and turn things around.
