MONTVALE, NJ: All Aboard The Lane Train!

Well, it didn’t take long to get some answers from last week’s questions. Old School is far from invincible, the Lane Train is for real and the Ferrall Ballerz aren’t too far behind.

If we told you defense would be the theme for this week’s action, the first thing you’d probably think is that Old School held down the fort again and sits at 3-0. You’d be very, very wrong.

The Lane Train has arrived, and apparently, Thomas Harris wants everyone to know. We see you, kid. The cocky teenager thoroughly enjoyed taunting the Old Schoolers after each of his three-point makes. In all, Lane Train knocked down seven triples, exposing the Old School zone. While they totaled just 45 points on the night, it was more than enough. Shockingly, Old School’s 29-point total is the fewest of any team thus far in the young season.

We saw another season low in the latter part of a Ferrall Ballerz win over USDA Prime. The beefy bunch actually led the Ballerz at the half, 28-17. The second half, though, was a disgrace. Spearheaded by the commish himself, Perry Mann, the Ballerz lock-down defense held USDA to eight points. That’s right-- eight points in the final 22 minutes. Mann and company held Tucker Diestel in check, who still managed 17 points due to an ungodly 24 shot attempts.

Diestel ranks among the league’s leading scorers, yet is shooting just 34% from the field for his 0-3 team. So it goes for USDA Prime. Ferrall talked with half of their roster – Distel, Hannah Jensen, Chris Patrick and Hayden Duffy – before the game about their struggles.

USDA Prime has some company at the bottom of the standings as the Bergen Tropics (who, in all fairness, have played three tough opponents) and the embarrassing Super Splash Brothers (no excuses) both remain win-less. As far as the undefeateds go, however, we will have just one remaining after next week. That’s because it’s Lane Train vs. Ferrall Ballerz in Week 4.

Now is the Ballerz time to prove they belong as a title contender. The teams they’ve beaten thus far are the three that were just mentioned – a combined 0-9. If they fall behind by double-digits like they did on Wednesday, don’t expect another comeback. The Lane Train has plenty of conductors.
